97725, what percent tint? Posted by 99blackclipse, Jan-25-07 06:12 AM
I want to tint my side and back windows, but i dont know anything about the percentages or anything. I basically want the tint to be dark enough so others cant inside when im driving but if you come up to the windows you can...or if that just sounds dumb of me then can you guys post pics of your tint and tell me the percentage you used.
Thanks, this is my first time even asking or knowing anything about tints.

Just so you know, depending on where you live tint laws vary greatly. Id suggest you first give a call to your police department just to check in and see what the laws for your state are.
Most states its illegal to tint the drivers/pass side windows Also some states even charge a yearly fee for aftermarket tint. (NC now charges 10 dollars a year if your windows are tinted)

to be able to see in if you look close but not from far away i would recomend 20% . i have 1% tint on my rear and quarter glass and 35% on my passenger and driver window . in ny it is okay to black out the rear windows but legal for the driver and passenger is 70% which is almost nothing . 35% you can see thru from far away . so you are definitly looking for the 20% . remember to check what is legal by you b4 tho .

I have limo tint in the back (5%), and I think 15 or 20% on the drivers/passenger windows. Looks great on a black car. Also protects you and your interior from UV.

I got the same thing with my black eclipse. looks great make sure u get them done somewere that knows what that has a good rep cuz the person who did mine scratched my class and there are a few cuts in the tintstill looks good tho u cant tell unless u try to find it. And dont do it yourself, that back window will dominate you.

I have always thought that 35% all around looks the best.
Darker tint to me looks like painted glass.
Do check the laws in your state as others have said, cause you will eventually get pulled over and/or ticketed if you dont follow the rules.

Illinois Tint Law Enacted: 1998 HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN ILLINOIS?
Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Illinois, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window. Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield. Front Side Windows No tint can be applied legally to this window. Back Side Windows Any darkness can be used. Rear Window Any darkness can be used. HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE IN ILLINOIS?
Similar to sunglass lenses, some tinting film contain metallic elements that help in reflecting incoming light and reducing the glare and heat generated by visible light. Front Side Windows Must be non-reflective, state law is not specific about what this means. Back Side Windows Must be non-reflective, state law is not specific about what this means. OTHER ILLINOIS RULES AND REGULATIONS Restricted Colors No colors of tint are explicitly banned. Side Mirrors Dual side mirrors are required if back window is tinted. Certificate Requirements Manufacturers of film do NOT need to certify the film they sell in the state. Sticker Requirements No sticker to identify legal tinting is required. Medical Exemption State allows medical exemptions for special tint. For more details about the specific terms of the exemption, consult your state law.

you're right similar laws in Jersey. Here you can have as low as 5% on the back and none on the front, no mirror tint allowed. Even if you opted to tint your front I wouldn't recommend 5%. My brother has it and you have to unroll the windows at night if you want to use your mirrors
I have 12-13% on my back 3 windows nothing on the front I think it pretty much matches what you're looking for. Can't see in from a distance, but if your up close you can see inside the car. Here's a pic:
You can see fairly well the difference between untinted (front) and tinted rear
