97516, Polished Intake Manifold

Well since I picked up a spare, I decided to try my hand at polishing up the intake manifold. I'm not done yet, but it already looks 100x better than stock. You can clearly see there's still lots of imperfections though maybe one of these days I will get around to finishing it but who knows....

Enough blabbering, here's pics:

It actually looks better in person in the picture it appears much rougher than it looks in person, but it does definetly need some more work

Looks really good so far, what did you use to get the coarse texture down smooth enough? Unless you rubbed the hell out of it with Mother's polish, lol.

A few stones with the dremel and an orbital sander. 80, 120 and 220 grit, I should go finer and probably will eventually, but for now I just shined it up with 3m rubbing compound. I have to eventually figure out how to get in the crevaces (sp?) and other areas I can't get at with the sander besides by hand because that's just too long and slow. I also used a cutting wheel with the dremel to get rid of the letters and a few unnecessary areas in the casting.

It's very possible I'll be too lazy to do that though. I keep looking at it going, well you won't see that part when it's on the car, or that part...

haha, I actually had that thread open for a few days when I decided to start, that's how I knew to get the 3M rubbing compound. Yours is much prettier then mine, but even if I stopped now its way better than it was to start

hehe I haven't even finished the zeitronix write-up yet. Although there's really not much else too it, but that guy may find its way into the evo, of course all I need is an extra wiring harness and I can use it on both.

I really should have taken pictures of the progress

I nominate wickedtalon or boosted60trimrst becuase there's look a lot better than mine and I just used wickedtalon's info to do mine. I'll do it eventually if neither of them want to.
