I was thinking about removing my rear seat but I still want it to look good. So I was wondering what other people have done once they remove their back seats, pictures would be great.

I went to Walmart and bought some automotive carpet... it was a close enough match, tad darker, but acceptable to me. Carpet and some spray adhesive. Cut to fit.

back when i had my 2gnt and was considering turning it into a 2 seater, my idea was to turn the rear seat area into an rx-7 like rear area...at least the 2nd gen rex's. behind the seat there is a "shelf" if you wanna call it that. and it has little compartments with doors flush with the top that you can put all manner of stuff in. the top came up about halfway up the seat backs. then was just gonna put it level with the little ledge before the floor drops into the rear cargo area.

here is a pic of a 3rd gen rex...so you can kinda see what im talkig about. there right behind the seats. on the 2nd gen they didnt have that little up-curve on the lid..they were flat and lockable IIRC

This is what i did.

I'm working on an enclosure for the rear that will bubble up in the middle for a full nitrous bottle enclosure. I was hearing taht it's illegal to have a nitrous bottle in the passenger compartment in WA so I have to make a fully enclosed with lid compartment. I'm now thinking of building a speaker opening on either side of it for a 10" sub or something since i have both sides open. I have a few pic of the progess on my webshots page for my engine rebuild.

I don't have any pics but, just a heads up. We used to build something like that in our VDub bugs. But we invariably ended up with people in back (no matter how tight). If you put your speakers flat like that they will eventually get smushed (if not by people then by 30 pack.......er "groceries"). What we did to solve that was to angle up the sides (like the stock speaker location) and put our speakers in there. I actually bolted in seatbalts in the middle for when we went off-roading and had 3 people in the car. The guy in back got pretty beat up (with hitting his head on the cage and all) but it was fun.

I kinda like this idea. I don't know that I would devote so much space to such a project for stereo equipment (you guys know me), but it would be nice to have a "cubby" for a small emergency tool kit, maye a cooler, and maybe a small sub/amp combo. ;)

Personally, I would use plywood, although a nice composite or plexi would be cool if you had the skrilla to do so.

it'd be kinda cool to do the rx-7 idea, and make like 2 doors that open where the seat back is and have a toolset layed out... god damn! how sad is it, when you've owned a 2gnt so long you're thinking of converting your rear seat into a mini toolbox?

If i haul stuff it goesi n the hatch and it dont drive so reckleslly it gets thrown up there haha and no one rides in the back either,my biggest worry is my dog,but i have a cheap pioneer in there now so wouldnt be much of a loss.thanks for the input.
