I did a search and I read about this seal that can be replaced and about checking drain holes..but didn't find a specific answer...
We just got done with the Ernesto "storm" and about the only thing we got was a lot of rain. Well I noticed last nite that water is leaking tru my sunroof. The area around my sunroof on the headliner is damp, especially the corner right on top of the passanger seat.
I had started to notice a drop or two inside the sunroof casing when it rains hard, but until yesterday the headliner never had gotten wet.
I called Satan regarding this and the service manager told me that there is no seal that is replaceable, that I have to buy the whole glass top assembly. He says he's had a few early eclipses with leaking roofs and they start to rust and thats when they leak so the whole assembly needs to be replaced. Now for the kicker, the whole assembly cotsts around 400 bucks.
My question is, has anyone had this done, I thought there was a seal you could replace. I do notice that the outside seal on top of the sunroof has lifted a bit in some areas over time and when I open the sunroof I do see rust in some parts around the back.
I don't know where the drain holes are in the sunroof but i looked around yesterday and there was no water trapped around the railings. It was damp but no water in it. Could I live with this as long as we dont get too many tropical storms or will this only get workse fast? I live in South Florida sop we get a lot of rain regardless, but like i said this has only happened today with the tropical storm.
The car is a 98 w/ OEM sunroof that has never been messed with.

I believe you are needing pnc# 78656 in this pic. It's possible that over time the parts could have been condensed down into one assembly, but call the parts dept. and ask those guys. The part # for the weatherstrip is MR199811. You can see the drain tubes in this pic as well.

Well, he's right. Every 2GNT sunroof I've seen that leaked, it leaked because the metal frame around the glass that the seal surrounds had rusted and was letting water through.

Your best bet would be to have the AZ guys start looking for sunroof glass in their local junkyards :) Nothing rusts in AZ.

They oem weatherstrips for the whole car??

I called Tallahassee Mitsubishi (not my locar dealer) who gives us a DSM discount for parts and they stated they dont sell the sunroof as a whole, its all parts and they quoted me 53.60 for the seal, now i gotta think about it cos I do see some rust inside on the sunroof so I dont know if i should go for the seal only and pray for the best.
Has anyone actually replaced this seal?...i was looking at it and thats gotta be some real strong glue they put on there cos its on tight!...even after almost 10 years. The guy i talked to from the parts department suggested i blow some air to try and clear the drains in case its just a matter of a clogged drain, Im guessing the drains are those grooves running on either side from front to back...although they do not look dirty or clogged.
Well either way...im heading off to Vegas this weekend (Tool concert!!) so I guess I'll have to deal with this once i come back, sucks...
