96304, RE: real BLACKED-OUT tails Posted by cs82685, Aug-29-06 09:38 AM
That looks pretty damn good. DJ's car makes me want to do it to mine too since that's what mine would look like. I kinda want to do the reverse lights too though but IDK if cops would bug me about it, either of you two have any problems with getting stopped for them?

Ive never been stopped but I usually cruise with my parking lights on which lights up the tails also. I have a really light light coating on my reverse lights as well. Just enough to darken them a little.

Hmmm...*contemplates blacking out tails* I think I'll stick with the stockers though, at first I didn't care for them when I was driving the talon, now they've grown on me.

Did you guys apply some type of clear to them? I used night shades on my bumper markers, but just a few light coats made them look dull, which I don't like.
|
96311, RE: real BLACKED-OUT tails Posted by edxmon, Aug-29-06 03:22 PM
i used 2 cans of vht night shade on mine, just masked the lettering, no clear yet, mom lost my tools, and cant take em back out till i buy more. i have had cops on my tail (right beind me) for blocks, even at night with no problem what so ever. and nah, havent painted my car yet, just came from an interview at mervins, hopefully i start thursday, plus my fin. aid money and ill get all the shit put on and painted.

I used Testors High Gloss Clear on my tails over Nightshades and it looks good and seems to hold up to the weather well.

96332, RE: real BLACKED-OUT tails Posted by edxmon, Aug-30-06 08:07 PM
LOL yea, i park right under a tree, so im kinda used to it. NOW, once i get my paint job, ill put a cover on all the time im parked. thanks for th props.
For the peep with the altezzas. I got the same deal, like 25 shipped, hey they are altezzas, can get any worst right? :)
And for dale, i dont know what kind of patern would match the circles on the sides. i think the only way ide do it, was if i could get it to light up where it said "ECLIPSE", otherwise im good with these.

96337, RE: real BLACKED-OUT tails Posted by DanKid, Aug-31-06 05:09 AM
Just a word of advise. If you have not put the clear coat, make sure you do it soon. I sprayed my tails with night shades two months ago and did not clear coat them and I noticed the other day that the paint is fading badly. Now i'm gonna have to strip the paint off and re-do them.

96338, RE: real BLACKED-OUT tails Posted by Star Turbo Talon, Aug-31-06 06:28 AM

I got mine at P&E distributing. Don't know if they would be local to you or not, but most performance shops should sell VHT products.

I cleared mine with the same clear I used on the body when I painted it. When you look at them up close, they look like they came from the factory with black transluscent plastic.
You can see what they look like at night in this old vid of me racing someone a while back.

You can also get it at O'reilly's, but you'll probably have to order it.

Strip the hatch of the "MITSUBISHI" & "RS" stickers; would definitely make an improvement on an already bad ass rear end.

On my friends tiburon we used a can of Testers (yes the model car paint) lexan tint. We got it from a local hobby shop. It say it is to be applied on plastics and lexan serfices, and it was only 3.49 a can and we did his taillights with that and it looks great. Hopefully I can get a pic to post. But becareful to anyone doing this as well, small light coats, to heavy and no light comes through!
