I have a 96 GS which I converted over to the 97-99 front end a couple of years ago. I finally purchased aftermarket fog lights and went to install them this weekend and I noticed that on each side there is a thick black wire with a plug hanging close to where the fog lights go. Since I have aftermarket fog lights I cut one of the plugs off and connected the fog lights up to the wires but they do not turn on when I turn on my regular lights. I looked around inside to see if there are any buttons in the interior that I never noticed before but I couldn't find any. Does anyone have an idea of where the switch might be? I'm sure that those plugs where there for the factory fog lights. I just don't know how to send power to the wires.

you should of just used the wiring harness that came with the aftermarket fogs.

the normal switch would of been over by the cruise control and dimmer buttons. in that general area. the left side of the steering wheel.

I have the wiring harness that came with the fog lights but instead of having to run wires I figure it will be easy if I can just splice into the two plugs already there. Does anyone else have any idea of where the switch might be at? I know that there must be something that turns on the power to the wires. They had to be there for a reason.

he just told ya where it is, to the left of the steering wheel, on that little panel where the cruise control panel is, directly left of the gauge cluster.

Yeah I read what he wrote but my car doesn't have any switch there. How can it be possible for the car to have the factory wiring and plugs but no switch? :scratch

I'm pretty sure it's the 82073 pnc# in this pic, but I haven't went outside to look at my dash to be sure. It's been a while since I've even touched my switch, they stay on all the time.

Easy, they used the same wiring harness for cars with and without foggies but just dont plug the fogs into the one end or the switch into the other. Pop the panel and see if theres an unused plug sitting back there. My car didnt have the fog light wires under the hood so I cant check my car for you. I have aftermarket foggies that everyone refers to as "ghey" but they do their job.

Here would be something to check out too. Look in your engine fuse box and see if you have the foglight fuse in there.


Malenko, your fogs are just kind of an eye-sore.



Those are my hella optilux 1100's. Thanks AzDave for informing me which ones fit correctly. $45 new shipped.

Thanks for the advice. I will definately check this weekend to see if I can find a fuse and also I will check behind the switch panel to the left of the steering wheel to see if I find a switch.

Malenko's fogs look out of place because they are huge and he doesn't have the fog cover's.


Everyone will probably make fun of me next because my fogs do not fit perfectly into the fog covers. Had I known that the hella optilux 1100's fit I would have gotten them too. That's what I get for not searching. :P

Don't get me wrong, it requires some fabrication. It's just that they fit into the covers well :)

You'd all hate my fogs then, they're 5" and sit inside the intake scoop, I like them though. Does the factory foglight wiring supply 12-volts? If so then one could bypass the work of running the whole harness and just pick themselves up a factory fog switch right (which I just so happen to have :D ) Just asking because I need to rewire my fogs (paint shop did a number on the wires, don't ask)

If your car did not come with fog lights, originally, it will not have the switch installed. Here's what you need to do:

-Install your aftermarket fogs the way the instructions that came with them tell you to do. They will work while you sort the aesthetics of the switch.

-Hit up your local junkyard for another Eclipse/Talon/Avenger/Sebring and find the switch installed in one of them. If you can't source one from the yard, hit up the sale/wanted (BST) forum here for someone parting out a car and see if you can't score one for $5-$10 shipped. BE SURE TO GET SOME OF THE HARNESS WITH THE CONNECTOR WITH THIS SWITCH SO YOU HAVE WIRES TO CONNECT TO AND A CONNECTOR TO PLUG INTO THE SWITCH.

-In the panel to the left of the gauge cluster (square at the bottom and rounded at the top, coming to a point on the right side), the switch will go in the center, oval location. This panel comes out easily with some gentle prying with a slotted screw driver. Get it started at the bottom, then pry from the top or side until you can get a finger under the lip and pull it out. You will just have to undo a couple simple clips to get that cap out of there. The factory switch will snap in the same way.

-Once you have the stock switch, use your ohm meter to test the leads to see which ones close the circuit when you depress the button. When the button is out, you should get an open circuit. When the button is in, you should get something like 0.000ohms. When you have found the right leads, put your connectors on them. Then disconnect the wires going to your aftermarket lights (if there are three wires on your aftermarket switch, chances are one of them is for an LED on the switch - ignore this one). Connect the wires that ran to your aftermarket switch to the leads on the factory switch. You fogs will now work with the clean, OEM switch installed.

Depending on how involved you want to get with the OEM switch, you could probably have your fogs work like the factory lights, but mine (which is installed like this) will work any time all the time - car on or off, headlights off, high beams on, etc..

Hope this helps. No need to dick around with the OEM harness. This way is much, much easier.

Just be sure to remember when you turned them on if you are going to have them run with the car off.
