This subject may have been discussed before, but I still wasn't able to solve it. I have this pain in the butt problem with my drivers side break light. It is not working, no matter what I do. First I replaced the bulbs in it and checked the connections, but the brand new bulb did not light up. Then I brought the Talon to a Mitsu Dealer and they replaced and checked the wiring throughout, still no break light. Finally, I got new connectors put in by the dealer when they replaced the bulb again. They said that they are not sure what could cause that. I can't think of anything else to do to get the break light to work. Any ideas?
Also, another light problem :(. The back-up lights don't work and never did. The switch seems to be okay, so something else must be wrong. Has anybody else problems with the lights? I've seen a few 2gs with the same breaklight out. I figure it could be something in the production?

go to radio shack and get a really cheap "test light". It looks like a probe lookin thing with a light bulb inside. Take it and a friend of choice and put the alligator clip to something grounded. Put the probe in the middle of the bulb socket (take the bulb out 1st) if the little light comes on when the brakes are on then the wiring is fine. If not, go to the next power place--the fuse box. You don't have to pull the fuse to check it w/ a test light. Just put the probe on the top of the fuse where the metal shows on it. Do BOTH sides of the fuse.If the light does not come on both time-- then change the fuse. I think there's even a fuse under the hood for brakes but don't quote me on that. Also check the little switch that the brake pedal is connected to. Good luck. BTW-- Do the blinkers work????

Blinkers work just fine. So does the passenger side brake light and the night lights. I thought about replacing the whole assembly, but I don't think it's worth it untill I tried everything. I got pulled over before and at least once or twice a week somebody asked me if I knew that my break light was out. I'm getting real tired of that... I had the wires checked with a volt-meter (or whatever this is called), but everything seemed normal...

Make sure that you are def. getting voltage to the rear. If so, I think you might have the wrong bulbs. Check to see if you got some crud inside the fixture that WILL be a sure fire thing that would cause that.

A friend is having the same problem with his 97 TSi AWD. Looks like it might be a common problem. He hasn't found a solution either.
