93738, If you used House Of Kolor Paint.... Posted by LikeNoOther, Apr-20-06 09:25 AM
I was wondering how much you used of the paint. I am wanting to paint my car
with a base of: BC 12 Zenith Gold Base
Then a kandy is sprayed over: UK 08 Tangerine Kandy
I know I'm going to need reducer, etc.
I was wondering how much of this is needed to paint our exterior. I know you can go light with the kandy or heavy, etc. I am wanting a burnt orange look. I am just not informative to the mix ratios on this paint due to ALL paint being different ratios and different items such as reducer, etc being mixed in as well. Mike I know ur's is sprayed limetime pearl so u might be the expertise on this one. Any info on this matter would be great! thanks guys and girls! ;-)

I'd say it's a work in progress....WOULDN'T YOU!?

I can tell you this... don't spray it yourself if you don't know really how to paint, you will have a mess. Also it's hard to tell how much candy you need depending on the shade you want. 2 quarts of base should cover but 3 is nice to have if you run short because once you start you can't stop painting. I usually buy a gallon just because it's cheaper and the extra is nice for interior pieces.

I used a little under 6 quarts of HOK candy apple red. I wanted a nice dark blood red. When bright light hits it, it looks amazing. At night it looks damn near black.
Here's some pics I took a while ago.

Your going to need 3qts of base, and probably 5-6 qts of kandy because of how thin it is.
Dont spray yourself either unless you have the a good gun and know what your doing or else it will be blotchy as hell.
I used 4.5qts of HOK TruBlue pearl just last weekend when I did mine.

I dont have the skills to paint cars, so I had a, excuse me, 3 body shops paint mine. I cant help you much, but all I can say is HOK paint is one of the toughst to spray, everyone I talked to when getting my car painted said the same thing. If you dont know whats your doing, DON'T DO IT. If you dont know anyone that works at a body shop, your fucked. I got fucked, went to 3 shops. Fucked at each one.
Good luck sir. LOL
Sorry if that comes across as me being a bitch, but my expirence with body shops sucked. I hope yours comes out better than mine. <sigh>
