93643, Question on Paint Purchase
Posted by edxmon, Apr-17-06 06:45 AM
sup guys, ive been wanting to get my car painted, with good paint and good job, but i dont know if i want to spend 1.5k or more in the paint job. i went to a local paint dealer and can get all PPG materials: Hardener, R87 red paint, and clear for $612. now the man behind the counter told me 2 qrts of paint should be more than enough since its diluted 50/50, and i guess he also included the price for what he thought would be enough clear. now my question is do his amounts sound like a good estimate of what i should need? and how much clear is needed?

i found a shop that will do the job for $500-700, so it will end up being 1.1 to 1.3k.

just lemme know what you think of the figures, thanks guys, hope u had a great easter!:thumbsup

I payed about $650 for base, candy, clear, reducers, ect. I got a gallon of base and clear and 6 quarts of candy, just to be safe. I always thought ppg was the crem de la crem of paints, so I guess that's a good price. I'm not really much of a body man though.

Well you could take a paint course at you CC durring summer. for 30 bucks ( per unt, usualy 2) you can use all their booths and equipment and get MEAN discounts on paint from local stores.

If anything I can use the discount and see what the price is like from this local place. I think is something like 20-30%

I can get you your R87 PPG paint, clear, hardener, reducer and everything much cheaper than that through my shop if you are interesting in doing it that way. I have the PPG Deltron 2000 mixing system in the shop through the local jobber here. PM me if you want a 2gnt discount on your paint and materials. This also depends on what type of clear you want to use. Mostly all PPG clears are expensive anyway but there are a number of different clears from PPG that could use so let me know what kind he priced out for you.

Holy crap. I got everything to do my car for less than $300. That included 3 qt. ppg omni AU metallic base, 2qt. quick clear, reducer, hardener, and all the stir sticks and funnels that my heart desired. In my opinion, the ppg omni 2 stage paint system is easier to apply to a car than actually locating your paint distributor who was tucked away on a side street in the middle of Aurora....bastards

yea you are right, omni is much much cheaper than the other ppg products. not quite as nice, but you can definitely achieve nice results with omni. i use omni on cheap, small jobs.
