93430, Removing Krylon Spray Paint from Intercooler Posted by Super20G, Apr-07-06 07:04 AM
I had the wonderful idea a few years ago to paint a mitsu logo in the center of my apexi intercooler... It looks pretty good... But the time has come for it to disappear.
I made a template, laid it on top, sprayed Krylon primer, then Krylon color, then Krylon clear... I think before the thing went back on I may have sprayed the entire front with clear... lol... but that was a long time ago so I am not positive.
What would be the best way to get it off since we're talking painted fins and all? I just want to strip the thing clean.
Any ideas what will work best?

laquer thinner, or maybe light sanding but be careful not to bend the fins, or even just repaint it all silver. ----------------------------------- 97 RS-T, STAR Stage 2, HAHN FMIC, Decah Lambo Doors, 19" Axis Hiros, Built 420a -----------------------------------

What would happen if I bathed it in a tub of paint thinner overnight and spray it off with a low pressure hose? I have no idea, as you can tell :-)

Id be too afriad to get get paint thinner in the tube and run it through the system.
Go get some Goo Gone, you'll be set.

You can get automotive stripper thats safe for aluminum in an aerosol can. I would take the IC off the car use the stripper and power wash it clean.

Good deal. I will try to make sure I get something for aluminum.
And, yep, still have the car. Haven't been able to part with her yet..
If I sell her and my daily, I cant afford anything I would like (saving for house) so not much incentive to sell right now.

It's an old apexi from when Hahn's kits used to come with them... long long time ago.

any kind of paint stripper should work, just make sure that it doesnt eat away at like aluminum and stuff, so you dont end up destroying an intercooler.
