93282, headliner pics and ideas Posted by fastmaxxcooper, Apr-01-06 07:08 AM
just lookin for people that did creative things with their headliners. the stretched cloth prevents me from doing anything immediate but has anyone molded a solid headliner in?
i want to do something like this to give the car a little character

this is what it is now. is this normal? and is that a factory sunroof set-up? there is nothing behind that cloth. its not wet in that picture but has stains so i'll have to watch it for leaks

your sunroof doesn't look anything like mine. i take it that mines not stock then. it looks good though
black headliner is an option. i loved how it looked in my corrado.
i'll just take down that headliner and make something solid to cover then.

i redid my headliner a month or so ago, and it is actually alot easier than anticipated. I like the way the all black one looks but right now the sunroof cover is still white and i kinda actually like the contrast in colors on the roof. I'll try to get pics up of mine.

I took fiberglass resin and did my whole headliner in it. I left it textured and I like the was It came out. It is not done yet but it looks good red. Also I glassed a visor wit a big flat side to put my computer keyboard on. Someone explaine how to get pics on this site and I will post them.

I just did my headliner with the new dupli-color fabric paint from advance. Its 6.17 a can here but itw pretty damn nice. It stayed on my test headliner great even when i scrubbed shit against it. Also I painted extra interior plastic and its hard to scratch even with out clear coat and no sanding! Ill get more info on it if anyone is interested

Wow get those pics up of the fiberglass ones, I want to see! That sounds like it'd be a looong process to fiberglass it at home.

Thats def. and aftermarket sunroof, and if its power good luck putting the headliner in yourself. It's not a beginners project. You will have to do it in the car since your board is basically gone. You probably have just a little bit left in the front and around the edges. You will have to glue it in the corners and pull it up through the sunroof and there is a trim piece that will pull off you wedge the material in, tuck the trim back on and cut away. If the old material is still good your best off leaving it up, and going right over it. If its a manual sunroof, you have a little more play since it will have more board left, but will still have to be done in the car. Here is a pic of my girls mustang with an aftermarket roof I did in blue tweed. I did mine in a black mercedes style material I will have to get pics of it, and my visors later....

yeah it is power so there is only a few inches of board on the sides and a little more in the front and back. i was thinking of fiberglassing the cloth that was up to make a shape then cover it with a fabric for a cleaner look.
more pics are welcome!

I got some foam backed material, and replaced the stock fabric. The sunroof shade panels, sunroof button surround, and the visors are all the stock colors. I kept it that way cause it matched my Sparco's pretty well.

Fabric stores sell foam backed headliner material in standard colors like gray, tan, and black, when I did mine I think it was like $18 a yard or so. I used 3M aerosol adhesive and it hasn't started to peel yet after 3 years. I think TopShop sells fiberglass and carbon headliners for our cars with or without factory sunroofs if you do a search.

I am going to fiberglass mine. Question is, shoul I remove the fabric first? I guess I should, but do I need to prep the headliner board? I kno how to fiberglass, so do I just remove the fabric, and start laying resin and mat?

They actually sell headliner material at fabric stores. I bought headliner material from a local fabric shop (Jo Ann Fabrics) in black and just used 3m adhesive and its still good today. Looks like it came black from the factory. Been up for about 3 or 4 years now.

Pretty much did the same thing with little twist. Works good and holds up well. I know its kinda hard to see but that's a mitsu logo in the middle there.
