93041, Some concerns about my car exterrior Posted by blackrs99, Mar-17-06 04:22 AM
Hello there, like the title sais, i have some concerns about some of my car's exterior. I have a dent on the passenger side, and some dents and bendings on the bottom of the car. In the muffler shop, they told me it could be a problem. I am posting these pictures, If anyone has any suggestions, and their opinions of how bad this is, and what should be done, I would really appreciate it, if higher quality pics needed, email me at vikonic@neo.rr.com . Thanks in advance
EDIT: srry i had problems with images and thumbs, i have to put them directly

i have similar underside damage on my 95. I guess i would look into replacing those lines if they are seriously bent, but the other stuff looks like it would be a pain in the ass to fix without your own metal shop. those structural pieces look like they're welded to the unibody, so unless you find a donor with that part intact and can remove and weld up the new one yourself, you're probibly looking at ALOT of money to get it fixed.

I had the dents like you have there, those sidemembers are weld-in.. the parts are cheap, $165cdn each brand new, but the labor is a fortune. I didn't have that big rip though, I don't know how you might have done that.. my dents were just from jacking up the car.

I haven't done any of the dents. The dent on the frame on the passgener side is from the last owner who didnt know how to jack the stupid car, and he jacked it on the frame, the car fell and bented inwards. The rips, also aren't by me, and i havent noticed them untill i went to muffler shop couple days ago, a guy said looks like they tried to use hooks, and they ripped it. He also mentioned how those bents can get my car outta alignment. Any thoughts of that?

If it was my car and I was on a budget I'd buy some factory skirts and have that rip ground down and a patch welded over it. As long as the car drives straight and doesn't crab walk like it's twisted you could probably get by. Fixing that kind of damage the right way would be big bucks I would think.

speaking of car driving straight, it tends to steer towards right eventually, but not too much. Im guessing thats common for lot of cars since holes and stuff is usualy on ur right. Those bent pieces, would they do anything to my alignment? Oh and the passenger side dent in the side... me and my dad were thinking of cutting that piece out, fixing it, and then welding it back in. He thinks its a good idea and he sais he can do it. I just wanna know if that would be healthy for my car, and is it going to weaken anything? Is there al ot of weight distribution on those sides? thanks in advance

The rips look like they came from one of those stupid tow truck hooks... probably an idiot.
The lines, check them carefully, Bad kinks would be really bad, but since its running who knows.
The bottom supports, OUCH. They are there for a reason. Has your car been aligned? Those look bad.
The outside ones on the skirt area look like from a lift or forklift...

Man I've seen some damge before but that out there. The rip in the subframe is more than likely from a tow truck driver forget to unhook the hooks. I would get an alinment first. If that truns out fine then I would not be to worred about it. The dent on the lower sides I would just put some side skrits on. I would how ever look very close at the lines that are bent. I would more than likly replace those. It looks like alot of the damge is from the prevouse owner not knowing how to use a jake. Well good luck with the car.

alright guys thanks, ill take care of the lines first, then im going to do the alignment, then ill worry about the side dent. Those lines.... are they cheap? Is it hard to get them? do i like search for them as "fuel rails" or what? I'm not sure cuz i havent used them terms a lot (foreign person :) ) , anyway thanks a lot.

The lines are fuel and brake. You well likly have to go to the dealer to get them. But you know thay well fit. I have seen some people splice them to gather but I wouldn't do that.

id get them lines replaced asap, man. i wouldnt worry about the rockers, thats just a dent, i think ive got one in mine too. that rip doesnt look too nice, i would ask a body shop, they know more about things like that. the car is a unibody, so it may carry structural integrity srtaight down cuz of that rip, but i dont know. i would ask a pro. if it was my car, the lines would be my #1 concern though
