92996, New pics of my car, been under construction for a long time. Posted by optikal, Mar-15-06 02:11 PM
It's still not finished. It's taking me a long time to finish it since I do my own work and I do body and paint work for a living so it's hard to get motivated to work on my own shit. The car was finished at one point but I decided to tear it down again and redo everything and add some things, new paint, lots of new parts, more shaving and molding in parts.

Shes got a long way to go, but it looks like its nice and straight. What have you changed though, the only thing i saw that was different was the rims. Are you sticking with black. Keep it up man looks good.

car was green, not black. it's not gonna be black or green though. i blocked the whole car down again, molded the rear bumper in (it wasn't the first time i did the car), welded stock gas lid door shut and installed sparco gas cap, shaved the roof lines (rain gutters), completely shaved the hatch, no wiper or squirter, shaved the windshield wipers, shaved bottom body line on doors, going back to a stock hood rather than the cf, started the headlight conversion, those rims are just to roll it around the shop they aren't the rims i'm keeping. going with 19's all around. the body has been blocked and primed numerous times and it is super straight with no waves or ripples whatsoever. there is a lot of work i've done that will never be seen but it's necessary to make the car this straight. all of the fiberglass parts have been straightened as well through hours and hours of blocking and sanding and priming and filling.
the car is actually farther along than it is in these pics, i just haven't gotten around to getting any more pictures of it. the body is finished minus the headlight conversion and it's got the final coats of primer on it ready to start getting blocked out for paint.

Peace, Much respect... Great workmanship... I have the same Sparco cap that I'm goin' to install as well... I was goin' to PM you and ask what you done to install it, but I read that you welded the OEM fuel door shut and so on and so fourth... I considered doin' that, but I thought the OEM fuel cap wouldn't fit through the Sparco door cap and would cause probs. when re-fuelin'... After weldin' the OEM door shut, did you jus install/screw in the Sparco door cap? Did you use/need the "universal" fuel funnel?
Good lookin' out in advance and once again, I respect your skills...
Peace, Jem

Wow man, You have done an amazing job to the rear of the car. With everything shaved and the bumper molded looks absolutely brilliant!!
I don't really care for the gas door because it's a little too small for that large space.
So I know your not going to say but........
What color are you painting it :)

that behind on that eclipse look tight and straight thumbs up.
I have a question will that molded rear withstand the test of city parking?

haha no, not a 53 caddy conversion on the headlights. i finished up that car for the customer months ago. gotta get some pics of it finished.
no i wouldn't recommend daily driving a car with molded body parts. it was done right and won't crack out but if the car is rear ended obviously just like a normal bumper it's gonna be fucked. this car isn't driven daily when it is together anyway, i have a few cars so i can keep this one in the garage/shop when i'm not driving it.
i don't care for the gas door either now that i have it done. looked better in my head. i would have rather just shaved it completely and relocated the filler neck.

So, say a car with a molded in rear bumper gets rear ended and the rear bumper gets screwed up... you can just cut it out, then remold the new one in, right? Shouldn't be that big of a deal other than the labor of molding it back on... or is there something i'm missing?
Reason I'm asking is, that rear end looks soooooo good molded in.
Also, I think the gas cap will look good if you paint the car bright. If you go dark though, it'll probably look out of place.

yea it's just a car anything can be fixed and redone again. no biggie other than the headache it would be to repair it and mold it again.

Or you can just leave the body panels in their current color, like many of the Eclipses in my area.
*puts up hand waiting for a high five*

okay man, out of all the 2gnts on this site (with the exception of JasonEsiT's talon RIP) your efforts on your car are usually EXACTLY what I would do with my car, b/c I love a superclean look. However, that gas cap has got to go. I don't know how you could make your whole car that clean, and then 3g it up with !@&* like that.
You're pimp at this stuff man, do the cap different. Place it behind the tails, and have the taillight pop out to reveal it. I used to have a picture of a blue eclipse that had done that.(think he or she was from this site actually, before they sold it)

Hey Eric.. nice man, real nice. I have two questions.. you were talking about gettin rear ended, but if you fill in the gaps/lines between the rear bumper and your rear quarter panel, wouldnt turning and shit eventually crack it? and my last question but most important to me.. how the hell did you do that to your quarter panels? did you buy them and weld them in like that or did you cut them and bend and mold them? looks really really nice though.. thats why I'm curious.. thanks

I've always wondered that myself. With all the turning and flexing the chasis of the car goes through, it would make sense that it would eventually crack. However, its not like the car is going to be involved in auto-x or extreme cornering.
Very nice work man, I've always loved your car... I always thought it was black, from your signature pic.

Given the gas cap does look out of place now, I think maybe once the car is painted it wont stand out as much and it will be a little more unique. I am sure you know cars are funny like that with all the body work you do, something may not look good at first but you dont stop in the middle of the painting you keep going and wait until its finished. I'm sure you'll find some way to make it flow.
