I took my antenna out and switched to the window antenana that came stock. I hooked up an FM amplifier. This combo works very good. Most of the time I didn't need the amplifier, but it did help with the signal especially in the garage. Reception with this set up I would say is just as good as I was gettign out of my mast antenna. So for thos eof you who were curious about this, go for it. I'm keeping this set up, and eventually will remove the mast antenna mount, wiring, and have the hole filled and painted (at the same time I have the front license plate holes filled).

Did you have to replace the glass in the hatch with one that had an antenna, or do you just stick it on somehow???

My RS came with it from the factory, the stock radio took the input from both antennas (mast and window) and switched to whichever one was stronger. So window antenna and wiring were already there.

So how/where did you hook up the signal amp?
My antenna motor crapped out a while back so I just unplugged it cus I never listen to the radio anyways. But if this easy I might do it, be nice to have the option...

If you have the window antenna the wiring is simple.

There should be two atenna plugs at the radios rear. The smaller one is the window antenna. Get and adapter that takes the smaller size to the standard size antenna plug. Plug that into the FM amplifier and the lead out of the amplifier into the radio. Then run the power from the amplifier to a positive supply(I used the cigarette lighter) And you are done. Mount the box wherever you want (I put it in the glovebox).

HAHA .. replaced the glass with one that had one.. That's funny.. I don't mean to laugh but that's SO not an option.

I had to replace mine due to a break-in .. the hatch glass with the integrated antenna and defroster is $1500!

Something to look into for me, tho.. Couldn't i just splice the diverity antenna wires into the mast wiring? As it stands, my diverity antenna, all $1500 of it, does nothing, because there's no input for it on my deck ;-)

That's what I was thinking. But I would think an amp needs to be put in anyways. So it prolly wouldn't be any easier. I don't know... I prolly won't do it anyways. Not having a radio hasn't effected me in the least. :-)

Yeah Dino shouldn't be a problem to splice into the stock wiring just get the connector that attaches to the window unit and then wire into the mast wiring and you'll be set. But definately too enpensive a mod for those who don't have the diversity antenna. The amplifier in helpful, but in most cases probably not neccessary... also depends on where you live I'd imagine. Big city... not as needed as out in the ocuntry I think.

Wow I get zero reception in my car without the mast. Even with a Premiere head unit, I really couldn't get any radio stations just using the glass antenna. But maybe the stereo guys didn't even hook up the glass antenna to my head unit huh? But when I had stock stereo, I got really bad reception when I broke my mast antenna...I think our cars tend to get really bad reception...a friend with a civic that shaved his antenna gets perfect reception with just a kenwood head unit, no antenna....

Yeah I tried that too with my stock head unit and the recption was terrible. I think the stock radios don't handle the switching well. Which was why I got the FM amplifier. But once the only signal going to the radio was the window antenna reception was good... at least on my Kenwood.

Well hell, excuse me for being ignorant, but how do you know whether or not you have the antenna on the hatch

Look in the glass, near the top.. It's just under the rear washer nozszle. It looks almost like a block pattern defroster in the top quarter of the hatch glass... if it's not there, you won't see it. If it is, it's fairly obvious.

Look at the hatch from the inside. If you have three conector you have a window antenna. Two are for the rear defroster and one in for the antenna the connector for mine was on the passeneger side of the glass at the top side corner.

If that's there you will have two antenna plugs by the stereo.
