92365, Mounting gauges behind driver's side sunvisor Posted by jsupetran, Feb-07-06 12:51 PM
So in keeping with my search for the spot to mount my gauges, I am thinking of mounting them begind the sun visor area. I'd have to have the visor flipped forward when the sun is not hitting me, but I like the idea because it's pretty steathy. I can just lower the sun visor when I am parked so others won't be able to see the gauges.
Now, the question is, is there enough metal for me to be able to screw the gauge mounts? I know djtrickee has a similar setup with gauges mounted at the ceiling...

I can't help you with the sunvisor mounting. But how about mount some of the auxilary in to the pocket under the stereo if you still have that. If they don'y fit perfectly it is possible to put them on an angle, so they would be slanted back. or if you could manufacture some custom pocket in there you could place them deep inside facing driver directly. And perminatly light them up. I think that would be awsome.
sorry no real help form me.

naw, I need to keep an eye on my egt, boost, and oil pressure gauges and looking down is not very comforting. Plus, my gauges are 60mm, and they are too big for the radio din slot.

I made a custom pod that actually fit to the bottom of the sunvisor. It held all 3 gauges you speak of. It looked pretty bad ass, but it hung down waaay to low. I think thats gonna be a problem your gonna run into.
Although I am 6'4", for all I know, your an Umpa.

why not just replace the visor with a mounting strip, the visor slides off of the bar and you could use it to mount them on, or make another pod that slides onto the visor rail. ----------------------------------- 97 RS-T, STAR Stage 2, HAHN FMIC, Decah Lambo Doors, 19" Axis Hiros, Built 420a -----------------------------------

You know, I think I'll go with a modified I idea of that! I'm thinking make a bracket that'll slide between the visor mounting points. The Bracket needs to be thin and made of metal of course. Then just bolt the gauge holder on the metal bracket. Surprised I never thought of this.
