92241, quick question on rearview mirrors Posted by Eclipse99fwb, Feb-01-06 04:33 AM
okay i searched but none of the post answered the question. Okay has anyone on here been able to wire up a rearview mirror with the map lights on a RS model? Im assuming you would just tap into the power wire for your dome lights, just wanted to double check. I can get the rearview mirror with about 6in. of wiring left on it and the plug. Before i ordered this, i thought i would ask so i dont go pissing money down the pot. thanks.
edit: i need to know by today thanks again.

I'm sure you know, but with the 2GNT'er breed, anything is possible, you can make it happen.
Are you keeping or getting rid of your old dome/map lights?
I'm pretty sure you can just extend the wires and make it work, but if you want both to work independent of each other make sure it's wired in parallel.

Lol, yeah forgot about that. Im going to go ahead and order it. If i cant get it wired up right then ill just sell it to someone. Im going to keep the dome lights if i can get it to work right, if not i might sell those and stick with the mirror depending on how good the lighting is. Since my headliner is out of my car anyways i got a perfect chance to try to wire this up and hardwire my radar detector in. what do you mean by parrell? sorry i have a idea what you mean just wanted to double check im thinking the same thing. thanks for the quick response too!

branch it off BEFORE the wire gets to the stock light, do that with both wires (I'm assuming 2 go in, One power, one ground).

the lighting will NOT be better with those mirror map lights. stick with the ones you got. my bro had them in his 99 and you couldent see SHIT with those on. and installing them in conjunction with the supplied dome is pretty much a waste. all youll do is get an extra couple lights to shine right on your dash..thats about all youll accomplish. unless your getting rid of the dome lights for a GOOD reason..save yourself the cash and time and move on to more constructive things.
IMO the only set of lights that needs to be added to the interior from stock is in the back seats so you can dig around back there and and actually see!

Yeah you can have both the rearview and map lights, very ez to do.as for the rear lightin,i used a set from a 97 jetta.poped a hole on each side of the headliner and just taped into the power/ground from the map light...
