hey guys, I'm hoping someone can help me out with a problem I'm confronting on my car. As I was hanging out with some buddies last night I had a friend of mine (works at a body shop) take a look at a rusty area underneathe my engine bay. When i bought my car, it had never seemed to be an issue, just a little rust, but it's not quite that anymore. The rust is on my upper left part of the bay, about 2 inches or 3 down from the strut tower. Its about a 3 -4 inches pacth in diameter, and when we crawled underneath my car you could actually shine a light through it(it was dark). The rust creeps from that patch I just described, about 3 inches to the left and right, about where our AC lines and coolant tubes area.. I'm trying to boost my car first, but according to him I need to address this rust NOW. He said the area is shaped that way for a reason, and if it isn't done properly it's gonna disrupt the unibody of my car. The area is about 2-3 inches from where u bolt up the struts. Then from that point, it spreads down TORWARDS my motor mounts (about 3 inches from it) in a .5" thick line or so. We were thinking that going to a junkyard and cutting out the area of another eclipe would be best. Then we could remove the same area from my car, and replace the non rusted piece with my rusted piece; a swap basically. Unfortunately, he thinks I may be too close to my mounts and struts, and think I *MIGHT* need to remove my motor. If anyone has had a problem like this or know someone who does, please let me know how they went about fixing it. I am worried the strut is going to shoot up to my hood after the metal gives from so much rust. Thanks for any help..

IMO, I would fix that rust spot first since it is an issue. No point in having a car if it isnt driveable due to a strut being thrown or motor mount getting broke off...

No need to post this in multiple forums under different titles...

:rolleyes
