ok, in light of some of the topics recently posted on here about HID lighting (no pun intended).

Is HID lighting possible on stock headlights?

If so, what is the best bet, I don't want to risk melting the headlight housings because I don't want to get pissed off over it if I do.

If it is possible, what are the benefits/drawbacks? What would be the best brand? What would be the best site? And most importantly, is it really worth it?

I had the "look of HID" with Sylvania Silverstars for a while, but I put the stock bulbs back in because I kept burning through those Silverstars like I do oil. (drivers side will only last 3 months!!!) I loved those silverstars because of the output... I still have 1 working bulb, but i'm not forking out another $20 for one that will burn out on me.

If HID is possible, will they burn out as quickly as the SilverStars do?

–HIDs use less power than the stock oem lights. The light bulb is different than the halogens, that's why they look brighter without the extra power, unlike the HID knockoffs that you can buy for $50

–money, expect to spend about 200. YOu won't be able to flash the highbeams since if the headlight is off, it sends power to the ballast momentarily and it is bad for the ballast (so I've heard from eclipsetenzor). You can rewire it which I will try this December break.

What would be the best brand?
–some say muccullah. I personally have the cheapo ones that have a 1 yr warrantee. Its some south korean brand. I'm cool with this one and happy with the output and no glare. Some may disagree and recommend doing a retro fit but hey I'm happy with my lights.

What would be the best site?
–ebay, imo. Cheap prices are cool for a broke ass college student.

And most importantly, is it really worth it?

–HIDs are actully rated to last much longer than halogens. Don't know the exact specifics, use google if you really wanna know.

you can't use the high beams with these?!

You can but its truly bad for the ballast (the think attached to the bulbs), if you flash your high beams at someone when the headlights are off. Try these, flash (as in on off on off) your highs and you will see the low beams turn on momentarily. Ask a friend to do that while you stand outside and you will see what I'm talking about.

I know what you are talking about... I always thought it was wierd that our cars did that anyway...

I never flash mine anyway.

I thought you were saying that when those were on I could not use my high beams (the only use I have for highs is road illumination at night).

This is a different issue not about HID but I wanted to say that it is a very good feature that our cars flash both High and low beam at the same time unlike some American cars( i know our car is American) like some fords. They actually turn off the low beam when high beam is on there for less light. Just a thought

BTW HID's are way worth it. Star Turbo Talon also looking at them. I want one too. If a few people agree on a brand and a price we might get discount. I am looking to just put the hid light bulbs in.. no projectors no conversions.
