when ever i try to open the passanger side door from the inside i need to manully flip the lil "button", since the handle doesnt open it. any of you had this problem before? the drivers side is just fine. i looked inside the door when i was putting the new weather strip and it seemed that the mechanism was different from the drivers side. on the drivers side there are two metal rods, one for the handle and one for the switch, and when u pull on the handle it opens the switch, but the little plastic piece that does that is missing on the passengers side. would i have to get this part from a local yard? thanks for all you help beforehand fellas!

you could get it from a junkyard or a dealer, I think. Just call your local mitsu dealer and see if they sell it.

yea, well i was just wondering if it was just an RS thing, i know of a local place where i can get everything i need, so ill go take a look one of these days. i was laso thinking i might leave it as is since im planing on getting keyless entry in the near future, so that will fix that. Any ways i was browsing thru he int-ext forum, ans was wondering if there are any door pannels that are manual and vinyl? since i have the RS i have the plastic ones, i was thinking of maybe upgrading but realized most all others are power window equiped.

i cant remember for the life of me who it was..but there once was a guy back in the day who claimed his RS with no power options came with the vinyl styled door and had a factory cutout for the cranks. he posted up pics way back but i cant attest for the true accuracy. you can search under my name for posts i made about door panels or SPAL power windows. i dont remember..its been 3 or so years ago.

hmm, i see. well i take it then most didnt come with them. it alright then bud, all i will do then is buy some perforated vinyl and cover where the door insert would be, should look pretty sexy imo

Let me tell you a little story, which may be your problem. About 5 months ago my passenger door failed to open with either handle also......I took the panel off and had my girl lift up on the outside handle, I also tried the handle inside also and nothing, though I found out why.
What had happened is it no longer made full contact to the top of the opening rod. I cut a 1/4x1/4x1/2 piece of rubber ( I used a 2" round rubber plug I had) and then with my giant claw hand reached in and wedged it in the slide so that when the rod makes its travel and engages the popping rod for the door it makes full contact. The door works fine now. Two days later my drivers side did the same thing, I use the same thing above to fix it. They work perfectly. I used a caps pick to show you the rod Im talking about.Yopu may even need a long pair of needle nose to insert the little piece of rubber.

Mine (GS) doesn't open when it's locked. I think that's factory spec. My driver's side does, however.

ok after reading further..let me see if i understand you correctly.

your saying when the door is locked on the drivers side, you can grab the interior handle and open it...and the door will just automatically unlock and open at the same time.

but when you try that with your passenger side...you have to flip the unlock switch to get it to open..is that right?

if thats the case, then that is normal. you can only do the simultaneous open/unlock on the drivers door, not the passenger side. probably some saftey issue for the passenger. so no, nothign is broken and nothing is gonna make that any diff from what i could see. unless you went to a junk yard and pulled a drivers side setup and modified it.

as far as putting vinyl or CF there in that little spot on the RS panels (trying to get the GS look)...im gonna advise against that. if you just stick something on there..its gonna look like you just stuck it on there. go with some aftermarket power windows (or stock even) and just get the stock power panels...then wrap them in wahtever you please. but just slapping some sorta covering over the plastic is gonna look pretty shoddy IMO.

hmm kool, that explains it! now the red-vynil over the insert area project is on its way. i hate to go against a 2gnt pro such as yourself, but i guess ill learn from my own trial and error on this one. now i just got my brand new matching red vynil shift boot, and a new center console, since mine had a lil krack. if any one would be interested in red vynil shift boot, i might be able to reproduce them for a small nominal fee hehehe. or free if i have any left over material after the door endevour. so ill try to take some pics when this is all good to show!
