I have a 2gnt that I bought with an aftermarket sunroof installed. The sunroof mechanism is now broken and the rubber seals leak. I want to remove the sunroof and go back to a non-sunroof car like it used to be. The car will be used on the track so I'd also like the additional rigidity.

Question is, how do I do this? What materials & metal will I need? I like to do my own work but I will probably have to go to a shop to have the welding done. Should I just go chop out a junkyard 2gnt's roof?

There are some people on dsmtuners.com who have done this. The preferred method is to get some sheetmetal the same thickness as the sunroof and the just cut it to fit and weld it in place. It must be done a little at a time or else the roof will warp and then things will not be pretty.

thats the only right way to do it...just like filling spoiler holes. check to see if there is anywhere you might be able to add some bars to increase rigidity in the area. you also might need to have the filler sheet shaped on a wheel considering our cars rooflines are curved.

Thats a big project to tackle. Sheetmetal can be tricky to weld. Also if this is going to be a track only car then you are going to have a roll cage already built in right? If so, then perhaps just smash out the glass and replace with fiberglass or CF panel.

If you are still inclined to replace the entire sunroof hole, then you will need to have one welded in. Not fun and not easy. Our roof has a curve to it so the sheet will have to be formed to fit.

easy fix... Find an eclipse in a junk yard and cut the top out of it. That way you have the curve and the braces that will support the sheetmetal on the roof. weld it in carefully and finished it with some filler and paint. Easily a day job to get it in and finished. Then get it painted.

Dude that is so what I was thinking. LOL

Sheet metal is no Joke it is very easy to screw up and warp your project out of control. Hey man if your serious about this endeviour take your time and do it right. You don't want your roof to wave at passer's by do you? Good luck

I disagree with Pitchblack about it being a one day job. It will take you more than a day to get it FINISHED so it's nice and straight. maybe to get it all welded in but not finished.

By one day I meant get it welded in and get some filler on it. Its defintaly gonna take some time to get it smoothed out and ready for paint. One day to me is how long the car would be down. Onces its welded in you could drive it while still finishing the rest of it. Sorry if I was a little misleading there.

I just welded up some door handles, key holes, gas door, and hood squirters for a friend over the weekend. Took about a day to get it all welded up. The rest of the work is up to my friends body shop. lol
