Don't let it happen again! :7

Use a 600 to get all the clear off and make sure the surface is nice and smooth. Then get the scratch marks off with a 1200 grit, primer, hit the primer with the 1200 again so smooth it out. Then base / clear. If your base is close to the current color you could probably skip the primer if ya want to save a few bucks.

1200 is way too fine of a grit to use BEFORE primer. if the side skirts are in good condition you don't need to primer them. if you are going to primer them for whatever reason hit them with some 180, primer with a 2k primer, wet sand them with 400, send them to the painter. if you aren't priming and they are in good shape just wetsand them with some 400 and send them to the painter. 1200 grit and up is used to remove defects in the clear like runs and sags or excessive orange peel.

yea im gonna be re-priming them..they are that purple color now and my car is dark green, so its a bit of a difference. 1 last question..whats a 2k primer?

i am a painter in a body shop . first scuff down the clear with 1500 wet .then prime it since its a totaly different color . you might want to tint the primer light green if your painting the car dark green . next wet sand the primer with 600 . 400 leaves small scratches . now yor gonna spray your base coat and clear it within the first couple hours after spraying the base coat .

yes, if it's a metallic color you should wetsand with 600 just to be safe. one question boosted60trimrst, why are you working backwards in grits? 1500 is way to fine to be prepping for primer with.

1500 grit is used in every body shop iv ever been in to knock off clear . why create more scratches then you have to i guess . i not sayin another way wont work . but thats how i was tought and seen .
