88764, Cool looks for the rear bumper? look at this pic.
Posted by maddogpr, Sep-06-05 11:37 AM
a friend of mine sent me this picture, which is obviously a very bad photoshop work, probably mspaint, but nonetheless, the black cover under the bumper looks amazing, for some reason.

I was wondering, if this is an actual available part, or if it's just taken out from other car (rx8,rx7,supra, whatever).

I'm actually considering building it myself, if its not available.

if someone has any links, info, how is it called? under-cover? rear splash cover? whatever.

thanksss

that looks like the center exhaust work off a porsche and the cheap glue on exhaust holes you can get at auto zone.

If done correctly, on the right car, with all the right looking things i think it might look aight. Personally, though, few cars can pull off the center exhaust...and an eclipse just isn't one of them.

Definately some potential there, ImportFan makes a rear diffuser for our cars that I've been dying to see a pic of actually mounted on a car. The only pix they have of it make it kind of hard to tell how it would look. Might be something cool for Talon owners to do with thier rears if they don't want to convert to Eclipse tail lights.

Haha. This is ironic.

A diffuser could be an actually funtional aerodynamic component. No wonder you don't like it.

Poor execution on the chop, but a decent idea. Don't think a center exit exhaust is going to be happening anytime soon either. Spare tire well, anyone?

Ehh, the proper term is diffuser. But that's a little much for me in my opinion.

that shit looks freaken awesome. I would definitely get it, if i made my car look like that. Gives the rear a major aggressive look, and it would be awesome haveing the tailpipes like that, instead of having a huge as muffler sticking out. Clean look.

very interesting...so i had to do some chops. no offense but those were so horrid chops..most likley done in MS paint. here are a few of my renderings. if i were to go aftermarket id probably consider this mod.

render 1 simple DT mounted in center

render 2 dual exhaust

render 3 porche boxster tip turned upside down

I've seen a black eclipse in my area that had a blitz rear bumper and a peice of diamond plate bent from the spare tire well to the bottom edge of the bumper, its hard to expalin but it would look real nice if it was panited black.

Hey now, just because you can't afford it doesn't give you reason to bash it. The diffuser is actually an aerodynamic part that helps under high speeds. It's not meant to look "pretty" or "phat". I give Topple (his name on tuners) all the credit. There were about 20 people that wanted him to make one for their 2G's after he posted pics in the thread. So, I'm sure he's doing well making these.

I think he was bashing it cuz its god-awful ugly. I don't care how much it costs, its horrible and I hate it as well.
Importing 347 baby seals and having them take a crap all over your car and then clearing that over with elephant piss would be expensive too, but it sure as hell wouldn't look nice either.

I’ve contacted a company called revozport.
They said they would make the rear diffuser for anyone who wants it but they want a group
buy of 10 people. I will post more information as I get it but before I go any further,
are there at least 10 people who would be interested in purchasing the diffuser?
Revozport said they would make it for $500 bucks a pop. Please post your name if interested.
Thanks,

Nick

Holy Shit! That is more than an entire rear bumper! Or are they talking about a new rear bumper all together?
90877, RE: Cool looks for the rear bumper? look at this pic.
Posted by vroom-vroom, Nov-22-05 03:06 PM
I believe its the new rear all together. Like I said, just trying to get an idea on how many people would be interested. Then I can get some more information.

If it's the entire rear bumper w/diffuser, and they cut it all up and make everything fit nicely, I would be interested

if they can make one that will still allow use of my apexi n1 im def down, just dont want to hack off my exhaust for it

I'd be interested and have a Apex N1 too. So only if I could still use it.

idk how you would make it still look good and use the standard muffler location... i don't think too many people would be that big on exhaust relocation...
90899, RE: Cool looks for the rear bumper? look at this pic.
Posted by 96rs-t, Nov-23-05 03:10 AM
I would rather have my Apexi exhaust removed and have smaller tailpipes for sake of a stockier look!
90903, RE: Cool looks for the rear bumper? look at this pic.
Posted by DSM_John, Nov-23-05 04:34 AM
Alright, I just don't understand about the exhaust relocation. Maybe this is my mechanical engineering mindset working, but how could this even become a factor? These cars have amazing drag coefficients as is and a diffuser would only help. The only question is whether or not it would 'actually' be designed or just turn out to be some shitty paper weight. If appearance is the main issue, remember that some of the best looking eclipses are wingless and the lost downforce would easily be compensated for.
90906, RE: Cool looks for the rear bumper? look at this pic.
Posted by vroom-vroom, Nov-23-05 09:27 AM
Guys I understand your concern but I really doubt they will start to specially design the bumper for every exhaust out there. The model they make will not have the hole cut out for the center dual like in the pic. (I only used that because it was the first one I saw posted) With the bumper its up to you where your exhaust goes and to make it fit. I do believe it will be a fully functional diffuser as well.

A waste of money in my opinion...the 500 could be used for quite a few things that would be more beneficial.
90907, RE: Cool looks for the rear bumper? look at this pic.
Posted by 96eclipse2nr, Nov-23-05 09:32 AM
that rear skirt is designed for either a dual evenly spaced exhaust or single center wide exhaust tip. anything else that hangs off or juts out on one side is gonna look like ass IMO. its gotta be symetrical. that is one bumper that just any ol exhaust isnt gonna cut it on. of course it was easy for me to photoshop the right look onto it and getting it to look that way in real life will be much harder...but thats about the only way to make it look good is with those basic principals of symmetry.

id say the easiest would be the dual exhaust between the outer fins. you could substitute that tip for a set of N1 mufflers poking out just a hair.

I do believe they gave the screen name of the DSMTuners member who was making these a year ago. All you have to do is put your mind to it and you could make something similar for cheap. You need a template, a mold, and some skills with the fiberglass/carbon fiber, and you're there, dude.

I think it would be sweet if you cut a hole in the left corner of the car in front of the wheel and just left the diffuser alone.
