I'm getting a silver 97 GS w/ a cf hood. It has the stock 5 spoke 16's on it. I was wanting a different look, so I wanted to paint the center/spokes gunmetal while leaving the outer lip the way it is. Has anyone done this, or can anyone photoshop me up a pic? Thanks!

I've done it before! I done it on my corrolla that I sold.

All you need to do is clean the hell outta the wheels and primer them up and Get Duplicolor Graphite(gunmetal) and paint away.

Just mask off what you dont want painted w/ cheap masking tape.

I personally recommend not masking a lip on stock GS 5 spokes

So you think I should paint the entire wheel? I'm not knocking the idea, just trying to make sure that's what you're saying. I think either way it would look pretty sweet, I really the gunmetal will compliment the CF hood. I'll probably mask the lip first, and then if I don't like it, I'll paint the lip as well.

I've seen all black 16s before and I like it.

See that's what I originally wanted to do, was go black with a standard lip, but my friend insisted that black wheels looked stupid, but gunmetal would be sweet (not that big of difference IMO). :rolleyes I don't suppose anybody has pictures? I've searched, but couldn't find much. Thanks again!

i've been debating about doing this to my stock GSX rims, but don't want them coming out looking like shit and regretting it. By the way, where do i get this paint?

I've used gunmetal Duplicolor paint specifically for wheels, and it kind of has a bit of glitter to it, so if you're looking for a little more solid color, I'd go with another brand. You can find it about anywhere, even at Meijer back in the auto section.

I had my GSX wheels painted by the guy who did my whole car. Came out great, but we also treated them like we did the car itself as far as prep and paint goes. Check my sig for the colors we used.

You can find this Duplicolor wheel paint at most autoparts stores. I got mine at Autozone. Of course, I used mine to paint the valve cover and brackets under the hood. I plan on doing broze or gold on my OZs just to piss off people who think it will look ugly on a white car. Can't wait to see everyone else doing the same thing by Christmas. :P

I think it will look pretty cool, so long as you keep the car clean ;)

I love those painted GSX wheels, they look really clean. Hopefully mine will turn out that well.

Just painted mine bronze, It looks quite nice on a black car.

I agree, bronze or gold will look smashing on a black or white car. If i ever paint my car black, i will either go with bronze/gold/ or black rims.

The Bronze is a lot darker than I imagined it, but it still looks good, gold would have been the better choice though. To the original poster If you do paint them make sure you get the clear coat to go with it, otherwise the brake dust will ruin the paint. I found that out the hard way when my wheels were graphite.

Yes sir Duplicolor is the way to go, for paint and clear. 1 can of each should be enough for all four wheels. should cost no more than 10 dollars.

Where do you shop? It's 4-5 dollars here a can, even at Wal-Mart. Here's an old pic of mine black with polished lip, but I do recommend the gunmetal.

Does anyone have a picture of stock RS 14's painted? I don't have the cash for new rim's, and mine are starting to look pretty rough.

That looks amazing! I don't suppose you have any close ups of them? I'm trying to figure out where the "lip" should start. Thanks!

It's pretty easy to find where the lip should start at. Where the spokes travel into the rim (on the outer edge), look closely and there should be a line that travels all the way around the rim as a guide.

Thanks, My vote is for Gunmetal for you. I always felt that black looked like crap unless it had a Thick chrome/polished lip. I guess because all the 16yr old honda guys take off there hubcaps and say that the race their shitmobiles. Fuckin dumbest thing ever.

is there anything special I need to clean the wheels and primer it with? i've never done any painting before but I wanna try painting the OZ rims that came with the car

Just sand them with 320 grit sandpaper, wipe down with rubbing alcohol, mask then paint.

im painting my rims tomorrow...if im not too lazy. I have the stock 16" OZ f-1's. My car is black, black tint, blackouts, and soon all black rims. Only problem i had was at the Advance Auto store they didnt have black paint for the rims...so i bought the clearcoat for rims and just regular duplicolor black...i figured the clearcoat would protect the black paint anyways.

Ehh, that's assuming if you have perfect paint on all four rims, which is a rarity as old as our cars are. There are usually chips and indentions which deter us from this method.

The best way for chipped paint on wheels is to completely strip it of all its finish with some aircraft stripper. But make sure you wash that junk off well or the paint won't stick.
