happened to me when i first got my car. if your car is a 5 speed, its probably the contacts on your shifter. i took off my console and wiggled around all of the shifter stuff

is this a common thing on our car? i had it happen to me too, but i thought it was because a while back, a big rig blew a tire and a piece hit my front end. it rocked my car, popped out my right sidemarker and shorted all of my lights. i fixed the fuse for the headlights, but then i recently noticed that my backup lights are gone..?? which fuse is the reverse lights? hopefully thats the prob.

Yeah add me to the list. Mine don't work either.

I checked fuses even replaced bulbs. When I get around to it I am going to check any contacts at the shifter and see what's on the trans, the reverse switch may be there.

so this is a common thing amongst our cars? and none of you had anything that would have caused this to happen? mine might be b/c of a short.. another little annoyance to add to the list! :(

I had this problem once. Took it to Satan for something else and they fixed it while it was in there. He told me there was some switch that got turned off. Don't know if that is true and I don't know where the switch is. I think he fucked with something in the center console.

not sure how illegal it is, although being in so cali, everything is illegal. but im not worried about the legal issues of non-functioning reverse lights, but its dangerous. when you are backing out of a spot, or parallel parking on a busy street, etc, etc.. im gonna check everything out this weekend if i have some time. DAMN FINALS!!

My back up lights didn't work when i first bought my car too. It was something wrong with the reverse lighting switch.

Ug, i'm not exactly sure how to explain where it is. (i'm new to this car terminology stuff). I had to buy another switch. When my mechanic friend put it in for me, he showed me where it was... It's below the fuse box... (where the gearbox would be?) if you look downward from the headlight, you can see it waaay towards the bottom.. it looks like a nut (we used a socket wrench to get it out)... when you take it out, the bottom side looks like the bottom of a lightbulb (the metally screwed in part).

Ok, sorry, i dunno if that helped. heh.

Oh yea, if you do manage to find it.. and replace it... make sure that your car is turned on and the headlights are turned on before you go to test to see if they work. when i put mine in, we confused ourselves for a little bit before discovering that the reverse lights don't go on unless the headlights are on.
