87723, No Front Plate
Posted by MattitudeV1, Aug-02-05 11:07 AM
I know you're supposed to have a front and back license plate and I've gotten stopped for not having one in the front. So I wedged my front plate in the dash behind the windshield. Has anyone gotten pulled over for that? I really don't want to drill holes into my bumper.

Also, if anyone knows where I can find the exact laws on this matter, please tell.

Mine is in the window... Id never have it on the front bumper. I have been pulled over once for it a long time ago, but he just gave me a warning. Even if I did get a ticket I would simply stick it in front of my FMIC take a picture with it on and show the judge, and the ticket would be dismissed- then Id take it off again.

Fuck a front plate.

i had mine off for a grand total of 25 minutes before i got stopped...gayest law ever

laws depend on the state you are in...sometimes even the city. If a cop really wants to be a dick he can give you a ticket for it not being flat up and down. That law was made in some places for frenched plates and was applied to tickets for the front plate as well.

Having it on your dash is just a fals sense of security and might just bring more attention to the fact its not on your bumper...again, depending on local laws...Your best bet is to check your states DMV web site, or talk to a cop or something.

I ran without a front plate for a couple years without a problem, but when I did finally get pulled, it was twice within a week.

Its only a matter of time. I ended up putting mine on permanently so the car doesnt get any more attention from the cops than needed.

That's laughable.

It really is a bogus law, bikes don't have to have one and there's really no difference besides them being a little smaller, it's not like they're going to be able to read that shit anyway.

Here in PA there is no law saying you need one. I have really never seen a car around here have one. :-)

Yah PA doesn't require a front plate. Unfortunately I don't live in PA anymore, but I did move to another commonweath state...VA. Virginia does require a front plate and I have been pulled many of times for not having one. So I just drilled holes in my R34 and mounted it to the left of my FMIC. I really hated to do it, but I really can't stand getting pulled over. I almost registered my car in PA from my parents residence. Always another option if you have the means.

If you don't want to block your sweet looking FMIC with your plate then obviously you have to move it to the side then. But if you don't have a FMIC the option of installing some mesh and zip tieing the plate to the mesh always works. That way you will not have to drill any holes. That is what I did when I was NA.

That was what i did.. the zip tie to the mesh method.. works good. I live in mogadore and they will pull you over for the dumb shit, so i just try to stay as safe as possible.

get or make one've those hinged bracket thingies so when the car's moving the air blows it flat. when/if you get pulled over it falls back down and they can't really do much.

Yeah, Not needed in PA. We cant have one because our roads suck so bad that they would be falling off everybody's cars.

Here in SoCal, I leave mine on because I don't feel like having a cop pull me over for a lack of front plate that can potentially lead to "Sir, I'm gonna need you to pop your hood..."

BEside it doesn't mess with airflow that much. I still get full flow to my radiator. I guess it is more of a cosmetic thing for some.

Up here in Maine, we're required to have a front plate. I've had mine off for almost 2 years now, have been pulled over for miscellaneous things and no one has ever said a word about it. I had a cop pull me over because he thought my exhaust was aftermarket (not allowed) and becuase he thought my fog lights were aftermarket (again, illegal) but didnt say boo about my plate. But watch, now that i've said this, I'll get pulled over for it. Sucky law though.
87778, do NOT drive near LAX w/o front plate
Posted by juan, Aug-03-05 05:57 PM
Went to pick up someone at the airport, had a ticket waiting for me on my windshield in the parking garage. Got pulled over by Ponch within 5 minutes of leaving the structure. Seems they are known to be pretty strict around there...

For nine years of driving in SoCal it was only an issue one other time, when driving along Rosamond Blvd heading out to Willow Springs. Got off easy with only the NFP ticket since I also happened to not have current POI and Registration sticker (all paid up, just forgot to have in car). The cop picked me out of the middle of our group, with Scot Gray's black 1G GSX in front and my buddy's white GTI bringing up the rear. He didn't seem to like my white wheels and 'slammed' look (ProKits + short 215/45-16 tires).

Coulda been a different story, though, since my buddies and I had just been on the 14 travelling well north of the Century mark...

Look on the internet for a folding front bracket. Like ^^^ said, it mounds to the underside of the open mouth on the bumper and air pushes it flat and when you slow down it comes back down in plain view.

Then put your tags on it? OR you mean just so that it looks like a plate to fool the cops?

Posted by TheOctane, Aug-06-05 03:22 AM
no plate, just to fool the cops, cause i mean all they need is to see the letter/number combo to get their jollys, so i mean it could work...

lol thats so ghetto sounding, i think im gonna try the bracket idea, but it doesn't look like there's enough room for the plat to fly back since my intercooler is so close to the bumper

i've never drove with a front plate in all the years i've been driving (7yrs). From my first 88 civic wagon to 95 civic, to a 92 eclipse to my 96 eclipse. I've always taken that front plate off, just cuz i hate how it looks. I must be sooo lucky. knock on wood

I left my car on a street in LA one night, and came back a couple hours later to find a no front license plate ticket. I sent them a letter saying it was the dealers fault, and later that week I put it back on and went to a local police dept, and had them sign off the ticket. $10, but not bad.

I don't like the front plate on my frown face bumper

oh yeah, ive been pulled over multiple times for that. I dont feel like drilling into my fron bumper, and am still too lazy. Ive gotten ticketed once, and every other time i get pulled over for it they let me go. if a cop sees you with it tucked into the windshield, chances are he'll opull you over a few times then leave you alone. lol
