My drivers side mirror glass is cracked. Seems most of the parts stores dont carry it, the junkyards I checked all only sell the complete mirror assembly and mitsubishi wants -- get this -- $53 for a replacement mirror. I stuck on one of those thin film replacement mirrors but it is very distorted.

My question is -- can I just get a mirror and have it cut out to fit or is the mirror some special kind of glass used only in automotive mirror applications? Alternatively, if someone knows of a place that sells just the replacement mirrors at a reasonable price, I'd love to hear about it.

Just buy the whole thing from a junkyard. I'm sure it would be cheaper then 53 bucks. The only bad thing about replacing just the glass is it's pretty difficult to do. If you don't push in on it with the right amount of force in the right spots all at the same time, it's going to break.
