Make them remove it. or use a handheld grinder. thats what I would do.

Mine was the same way, all I did was get some spray carb cleaner and a fresh rag and rubbed till it went away and it didn't scratch it and just used some polish afterwards to shine it up!

just use some paint thinner, just dont leave it on for too long
i might even just scrub like a mofo with mag aluminum polish
EDIT: just realized use a clay bar, thats how i got the overspray off my wheels

Steel wool if it's not too thick.

You trust the most important part of your whole project( Paint ) in the hands of a shop that cant tape-off an exhaust right. If it was a credible shop then you shouldnt even have to worry about there mistakes, they should remove it for you. I hope the rest is coming along nicely for your sake..
Post some pics..

That deffintley sounds like you got a quality macco job on your car because thats just fucking pathetic. Have them fix it or replace it that shit would piss me off. Now I'm gonna go before I probably say something very insulting.

Do not use steel Wool of any Kind, It will scratch the surface of your shiny Exhaust tip. Paint thinner is your best bet, then use Eagle one Never dull to polish it up.
