i don't want to spend the money on rims right now becuase i just about have enough money for my turbo

but anyway.......i was talking to a friend today and he said that i should polish my wheels. i know it would take time but it could be done right? he siad i would need a dremel tool and a few different kind of bits. has anyone tried this? think it would look good? it would be nice to have the stock rims for less wieght.

yeah you could do this or even paint them.. just for the looks of it.. you wont get any weight reduction out of it though...

sometimes in the right light and angle my rims, beat up as they are, look sweet...

i didn't mean that by polishing them i would reduce wieght. i mean there lite in the first place.
does anyone know the actual process of polsihing them, what do i need?

I heard people talking about doing their manifold and they went through ALOT of bits for the dremel... in my opinion you should keep the rims stock right now get the turbo and after taht get more money if the stock ones are really shabby looking

My dad polished the frame on his old bike (now my new bike), a gixxer 1100, I can ask him how he did it, I remember him saying he did it by hand, I wanted to polish my exhaust manifold cover and he was going to help me. Ill ask him how he did it and post here later.

you can just use sand paper and work your way up too 2000 grit then wet sand it with 2000 grit it looks like chrome. I am working on a few things myself right now.

i have polished many things under my hood in the past..

you have to use many grits of sand paper...

i usually start with what i feel to be a good grit.. depending on how rusted or how dirty looking the piece is.. or how rough..

if it is pretty smooth start with a 400 or 600 grit..

then keep working up and up and up.. i usually stop at 2000 as well.. 1500 gives it a nice shine and 2000 makes it really shinny..

try to get a even shine on it so you wont get lines..

after that get that dremmel out and get some good metal polish and start buffing away.. it gets some of them lines outta there and brings out the shine..

after that id get some good clear coat to put over them .. so rust wont get on it..

some of the metal under the hood is magnessium and rusts faster then aluminum.. so my lil pieces under the hood would always get rust on them within afew days and id polish themall the time.. so i just used some spray can clear coat.. and they have stayed up good.. it wasnt on metal that was getting really hot..

i wanted to do my exhuast manifold cover but i painted it a long time ago and it was too much of a pain to take off.. and i got a header so i chucked it..

thats exactly what my dad did. they make high temp clearcoat dont they???
