LOOKS COOL, NOW MAKE ME SOME FUCKING CARBONFIBER DOOR PANELS :)

84163, RE: Done with some CF parts Posted by DJ420a, Apr-20-05 04:19 PM
You do know if I made those, they would only be covers, right. There would waaaaay to much work to fab a full CF door panel.

Of course I would. Ching ching, always talks, lol. Just get ahold of me so we can get your specific needs. Like I dont know if you would want the guage pod to hold 5 gauges, even if thats the piece you want.

84340, RE: Done with some CF parts Posted by DJ420a, Apr-25-05 11:18 AM
I can pretty much make any interior piece, either be an overlay or a full replacement. As for the Safc fitting I can do that. You have to IM me or something so I know if thats the only thing you want in there.

i have been trying to make pieces for a long while now with no luck. If i even manage to get it straight and dry I get tons of tiny pin hole bubbles in it. How do u prevent this? please share?

85550, RE: Done with some CF parts Posted by DJ420a, May-29-05 10:49 AM
Well, like I said in the email I sent you, it all depends what you mean.
If your getting pin holes/bubbles in the resin. Try these 1. Layin the resin thinner. 2. Using a roller like these..http://www.shopmaninc.com/fgrollers.html 3. If your trying to use a dryer of some sort to help the catalyst, try doing a little less. You dont want your piece getting too much hotter than its normal curing temp.
If your getting the probs while clearcoating. 1. Check your airpressure at the gun. I spray at 30-35 psi. 2. Dont try to put any direct heat to cleatcoat. I have learned (the hard way) that you shouldnt do this. Atleast overly amounts of heat.
For curing both resins and clearcoats quicker than its natural curing process, Ive found this worx pretty well. 1. Get a box that the piece you made will easily fit in. 2. Make sure any king of dust/dirt is out of it. 3. Get a hair dryer, the kind with 2 speed settings. 4. Cut a hole in the top on one side big enough to fit the tip of the dryer in. 4. Cut another hole on the opposite side for an escape vent. I didnt make mine any bigger than like 2" round 4.Stick your piece in the box and seal it up. 4. Stick the hair dryer in the top, turn it on, on the low setting. Make sure you angle it to where it facing the side of the box. You dont want it blowing direct air on the piece. Could get a ripple affect. 5. I let mine sit for 15 to 20 mins at a time then check it.
I might have forgot some things, Im really hung over and it hurts.

Well what do you guys mean when you say door panel? Do you mean stripping everthing of it, and just making a mold of the panel that screws to the door? Or do you mean with everything still on it?

err not door panel I was thinking the bottom section of it, everything below that ridge, that runs midway through the door, switched to CF, with a spot for a 6.5" speaker built into it

I'm thinking it sounds like to much hardner, go light on the hardner and let the bubbles work themselves out. Also when mixing don't whip it like your making a cake, it allows to much air in the mix. And even though its nice, sometimes its best to not overflood the first coat.

Oops, did I say that wrong? lol
Right now Im also working on a pod that will sit up against the windshield and the dash, in between the 2 defroster vents. I think that would be good place, cuz it wouldnt be hard to focus on it.
It wont rattle on the windshield. It may/will cover some of the defroster vent(not much) depending how many guages are needed.
