I'm working on my 99 GS tonight, trying to install these projectors:

I FINALLY get the friggin' bumper off, minus a few plastic parts that will never make it back on the car again. Each of my new headlights has 2 harnesses that come from hi and lo, plus the bare wires for the angel eyes. When I went to hook it all up, I noticed the stock headlights only had one harness going to them ??? When I went to fit my new lights on, I just plugged in whatever would fit on each side, tested them out, and nothing--high and low beam (yup, I got bulbs in the new housings). Why the hell won't anything come on? I switched them around, and still nothing. It appears the right side of the car has 2 harnesses to plug into, but the left side only one... I've unplugged and tried so much crap, I don't know what goes where! And why do the stockers have one harness, and the new lights two each? PLEAAASE HELP! TIA!

I have heard that some have had to splice these into the stock wiring. Have you tried asking the guys you bought it from, they should be able to help, unless they sent you the wrong ones?

Those are my exact projectors. I had to cut the whole harness off of both stockers (so much for getting $$$ outta em) and wire them up to my new lights before i could plug them into the car. So everything's up and running now. Thanks for your help.

Funny thing though, I still have this 2 wire harness coming out of the right side, and don't know where it goes. :P I thought I had everything hooked back up, but I don't know where this one goes. Maybe I'll figure it out when I have some daylight tomorrow. :D

Something sounds wierd. I bought some projectors off of ebay for my Eclipse and I never had any problem hooking them up. Are you using the wiring harness they send you to hook up the projectors?? If so then that's the problem. I have an Eclpse and a Civic with projectors and I have never used the wiring harness that's included with the projectors. I did a search and found a company that said they hooked up hundreds of projectors without the wiring harness and never had any problems. All I did with both projectors was plug it straight into the factory harness and that was it. My civic has the projectors with the halos and the only thing different I did to install them was that I hooked up the loose wires to my turn signals in order to make the halos light up and blink. Be careful with those halo projectors. The rings started flickering and finally died out one by one after only two or three months on my Civic. That's why when I bought them for my Eclipse I went with the black housing projectors without the halos.

I have the same projectors and I had to splice them into existing wiring. The dual projectors have this problem. You can either buy a wire harness or splice em bitches

Hey, I have those same ones, or close to it, and I had to cut the harness off and use electrical connectors. One wire I used a male fitting and the other a female, and just connected each wire individually. Hope this helps ya out

Thanks guys for gettin' back to me. The bumper is back on (ya, I destroyed a few things in the process, but I never want to have to remove the bottom screw for the headlighs, or the 2 poppers under each of them that hold the bumper on EVER AGAIN!), and all the lights work just like they should. I just wired the halos into the side markers. The only things I put back on were the 5 bolts at the top of the bumper, the 2 on each side that hold the bumper to the fender, and the one on each side I removed inside the front of the wheel well. Shouldn't take me 2 hours to take my bumper of next time. :P

I cut the harnesses of the factory headlights, and spliced them into the new headlights. As for the 4 harnesses that came with my new lights, I tossed them. They're worthless because they're for 2-wire connections. The two blacks on my new lights I spliced into the single black on the factory harness. The red spliced with red, the green spliced with the blue. I plugged it in, and all works like a charm now. I still can't figure out exactly what the other 2-wire harness is on the right side that's just dangling there, but all my lights are on, and the car is running AOK. Anybody have ideas? It's looks like the same connector as the 3-wire harnesses, but this one is for 2 wires. It's dark grey, has orange inside, and looks like it's for lighting, but I have no clue...

I'll be painting my road light housings today, and going by Home Depot to get more gutter guard, since I destroyed my old grill at 3am last night due to immense frustration. :) I hope my pain will someday help others...

anyone else have any problems with the halo's dying out? I am thinking about getting these http://www.racerwheel.com/rt100410.html but would be extremely mad if after 1-3 months the halo's went. btw, i guess i am just going by off of whoever said it but can you not replace the bulb =?

I've never been inside one of the lights from the link you provided. I don't know anything about their halo LED quality.

One of the halo lights in my ebay projector light review had a bad LED right out of the box. Being the kind of person who can't leave things alone I just fixed it myself. These lights opened up just the same as the factory lights, with the oven technique, but it is a lot of work regardless. The 2 LEDs in series in each halo were running at 20mA at 13.6 volt which should be very safe. They should run for 10 years unless they are dirt cheap LEDs which could be the problem. If you are worried you could wire another small resistor into either lead to drop the current a little further at the expense of brightness.

Note: If you ever do have to replace an LED don't follow the anode/cathode markings on the tiny circuit board. They are backwards. Of course test it for a few hours before sealing the headlamp back together.

Dave how is the cut off line with those projectors? The ones I have are pretty decent and I like that they are ECE, they give off an awesome look when lighting up road signs. I may retro TSX projectors in these bad boys though. Do you know where we can get different bulbs from McColluch.

could someone please post a picture of these headlights installed on the car? id be really interested to see what the look like, especially all lit up.

i painted my roadlight housings, and all was looking good. however, when i put them back on again, i missed the hole on the right side one, and just twisted the screw up next to the plastic. i couldn't get it out, and i didn't want to scratch anything. i was in a hurry so i left it there for a minute and took off to pick up my girl. it stuck there for a while, but about the 3rd stop i made, i noticed it was gone. :(

where do you guys go to get little trim parts like that? junkyard? dealer? parking lots? }( it's bad enough that i have to sand one and paint it again, but i definitely don't wanna spend 20-40$ on a piece of stylish plastic. TIA

EDIT - I'll post some pics here in a few so you can see the lights installed and lit up. bear in mind i tossed the grill and am missing that right side housing for the road lights... :wallbash

How's the cut-off and beam on the ebay projectors?
Much better than my factory modified lights with HID bulbs but of course, not as good as true name-brand projectors.

Retro TSX projectors into these housings? I put E-55 Bi-xenon in them this weekend. A LOT of work. E-55's a large units.

McCulloch bulbs? Contact any ebay seller doing the McCulloch kits. I deal with ebay seller "supervtec" in LA.

Very Nice Dave! Yea those e55's are nice. I helped a buddy of mine retrofit them into his 5th Gen Maxima now that was a challenge between cutting and painting and lineing it up correctly. Do you still have the other high beams on the headlights in or did you ditch those and just snip the wire. Also are you still using the McColluch Ballast and bulbs or did you switch over to Hella or Phillips. Very interested because I will be retrofitting later this spring.

I left the halogen high beams active on for now to supplement the bi-xenons.

When I bought the E-55s they came with ballasts and the correct connector for the DS2 bulbs so right now I have 2 Hella ballasts mounted where the McCullochs used to be. I'll probably save the McCulloch set for another project.

Lost roadlight housing? You mean the fog light bezel?
I think a junkyard is the first place to try for the bezel around the foglights you lost. That was what you were talking about the screw falling out of right?

Ya, the bezel is what I was talking about. I called the dealer for a good laugh, and he wanted a VIN number before he'd tell me anything. I told him to bite me. I'll definitely hit the junk yards up first.

Dave If I were you I would use those ballasts for the fogs.

Another Idea just sparked into my head. Why not make the high beams daytime running lights and switch the bulb to something not as bright. Just an idea though, you probably have already thought about it or if your like me you have your HIDs on during the day anyway.

I already have some HID H3-based bulbs and have a set of Hella driving/fog lamps I might convert. I like daytime HID lamps so I'll leave the normal halogen brights as they are.

Ahh Yes!! Thats what I'm talking about. Bi-Xenons are great! Pretty nice cut-off could be a little sharper but very nice! Are those DOT or ECE Projectors? I like how the step on the left side goes way up, must light signs up beautifully.

When I was bench testing with the clear outer lens removed from the housing the cut-off was very sharp. I am losing some of that crispness after the light passes through the plastic front lens. Not much I can do about that.

Yes, these are the ECE code lights and that's why I have some light angled up on the passenger side of the beam. I think DOT code allows more residual light above the cut-off to help illuminate overhead road signs but it does not have the angled light to the right like mine.

Quite Personally, ECE projectors are my favorite that is why I favor TSX (Stanely) and Valeo projectors. Most are ECE and have a beautiful cut off line. I like having street signs lit up in the luminescence color because people are always like wtf? why is the sign like that most cars don't light them up that way because DOT is more Americanized. Anyway, that is an awesome setup Dave, and I hope to retro in some new projectors in the future. Your projects are very inspiring to do more of the smaller unique stuff with my car rather than focusing on performance and big cosmetics.

hey guys i've been trying to rewire my headlights and i'm not so great about this stuff but when you say you cut your harnesses and spliced them to the new headlights what exactly do you mean?

do you cut the harnesses from the new headlights too and just connect them?

i had my stock fog lamps removed so could i use the wires for the fog lamps for the halo's so i can use the switch in my car to turn them on and off or would it be better to connect them to my side markers?

won't they blink when i'm signaling? i'm not sure if i want that.

well i guess i just need help connecting all these wires.
how exactly do i do that? do i need to buy any connectors? or can i just twist the wires together and tape them up?

I suggest crimping the wires together. As for the wiring the halos to the foglights, you could do that if you wanted to. And to answer your question on will the halos blink when you signal, no they wont because the turn signal is running on a different relay. What projectors did you buy? Some are direct plug and play like the ones I have where you dont have to cut at all, but some you do. So before you hack them apart give us a pic of the headlights you bought.

Here are the headlights i got.

so I cut the connectors from my fog lamp harnesses, well think they were my fog lamp harnesses they were twisted into some other cables i'm guess so they didn't drag on the ground.

I twisted together the red wires together and the black wires together to test it out but the halo isn't lighting up at all.

am i going about this all wrong?

also.. i did have projectors previously installed but these were from 3 years ago and somehow the bulb fused together with the plastic cover and i guess shorted out.
these were only one projector headlights so they only had one harness like the stock ones, i'm guessing.


i'm getting ready to go back out there and give it another shot.

I have no idea what the harness looks like in your car if you already had projectors before. Here are a few pics I took for someone else last month. It shows how the stock wires are in the headlight housings on my 98 RS.

I have the same projector lights from ebay you have. I did NOT get the correct harness with mine and had to cut the plugs out of my old headlights to make it work the way I wanted.

Angel eyes? Just hook up to the side markers (don't blink) and the wires are easy to get to. You might want the fog light switch for fog lights again in the future.

Oh, yea and now I just realized, your foglight switch does not work unless your low beams are on, so putting your halos on the fog switch is even less useful because you can only have them on with low beams, and theres no point to that because you wont even be able to tell if they are on when light is coming from the projector. Just hook it up to the sidemarker.

On mine the halos are spliced into the parking lights, black wire from the halo to the black parking light wire and red halo wire to the green w/white stripe parking light wire. It amazes me how far from "plug and play" these things are, and once I finally got them wired right (had no brights on my first attempt) I had to tear them apart to replace the LEDs. I think I would have given up on them if it weren't for azdave's help.

Since i started this thread o' so long ago, I decided it was time to take pics since I finally got my new digicam and am good to go now... :D thanks all for your help. i'm so glad i was introduced to 2GNT.com...
