82714, Lowering and Lighting

Hey, I've decided to turn my GS into a Show/Street car and not a race car at all... i'll get a GSX for that sometime.

Anyways, I have a few questions.

1) What exactly do I need to do to lower my car, and how much do you suggest i lower it? How much is too much? What looks best?

2) Where should I go to get a 2Gb OEM style front and rear bumper at?(Yes, its going to be a show car with OEM style bumpers... no overused blitz kit ;)... )

3) Should I do supra taillight conversion? IMO it looks good, but im not sure if it will get enough "praise" to be worth the work. If not, do you have any other taillight conversions that haven't been done yet, or not done often that you think would look cool?

4) What kind of headlights do you think are best? Stock 2Gb looks cool, but not as cool as halo projectors w/black housing, but I'm sure theres others out there I haven't seen.

Thanks

lowering it 2" looks awesome usually. if its a show car you never drive, you only need springs, but otherwise you will need springs, shocks & a front camber kit so you don't blow your struts or wear out your tires.
buy the 2Gb bumpers secondhand, they are easy (really really easy) to find.
the Supra taillight conversion is played out for our car. if you really must do a taillight conversion, do something nuts like an IS300 conversion or R34 Skyline conversion or something.

Are you going to be driving the car or just have it sit there? If you are going to drive it, I'd try to keep it somewhere around a 2 inch drop. To lower the car you could get a spring/strut combo, coilovers, or air ride. Make sure you get some damn camber kits!

Thank god. You can get the oem 2gb bumpers from here, dsmtrader, ebay, satan...all over the place.

Supra tail lights belong on a supra. The only tail lights that I've seen on an eclipse that didn't look out of place has been the OEM tail lights. Eventhough I did kind of like the G35 tail lights on that one guys widebody eclipse.

As far as looks/performance goes with the lighting...I'm going to say the OEM 2gb headlights are the best bet.

Thanks for the replies

Yeah, I'll be driving it... there's not a lot of shows around here, but there are a few, and I'll take it to those, but I'll be moving to florida in a lil over a year, and I'll probably get my GSX then and start buildin it for racing... so I wanna get my GS riced up!!! (kinda) lol, though i dont want any graphics on the sides, or body kits or anything.

Anyways, looks like ill go with 2" drop. What are the best quality parts for that?

I was also wondering, do you think anyone on here would be able to make me a 2Gb style CF front and rear bumper? I know it wouldn't be cheap, but I've never seen this, and I think it would be really cool.

Thanks

if you just want some springs go with Tein. they make good parts and are gaurenteed not to sag over time. and there green to boot!
most people here liek the Tein type-flex for full coilovers. if you drive it at all grab an ingals camber kit and install it when you do the springs.
the 2G (97+) bumper is a good choice. you can find some carbon lip spoilers to make it stand out. if you want, someone on the web sells a rear carbon difuser for the stock bumper. id check that out for a more unique look that plays on stock well.
for tails id try some Nite-Shade spray and go for a seim-blacked out look on the stock tailights. also color match the center section of the lights and then either get the "eclipse" letering and put it back on or find a diamond from an evo or montero to put on the back
IMO.

good luck

Thx for the reply... I don't think I want to go with the semi-blacked out look... unless i do paint my car PPG candy orange glow, then I might do that... guess I need to decide on a color scheme first...

*sigh* decisions decisions.

also, wtf is a rear difuser? i see it talked about all the time but dont know what it is. ive searched for it, but ive never gotten an explination of what it is...

thx

The primary function of a diffuser, is to in effect better aim the air flow around the chassis. It is an attempt to create a more efficient pattern of aerodynamic direction, as well as decrease the amount of drag that occurs when air gets caught behind your rear bumper. One style channels the air and the other allows for the air to flow freely past your rear bumper and reduce drag.

Here is a pic of my friends car with both style diffusers:

i was born and raised in miami and now in ft myers. miami, as it is now, is nothing more than a nice place to vacation. it seems like no one in the city itself speaks english and its just become a shithole with each passing day. living in the suburbs is fine tho. if you are around orlando, youll be fairly close to where the FLDSM meets usually end up taking place at.

near the FLDSM meets... sounds good to me.

I think I'll probably move to Melbourne, cause I have some friends there and stuff. I'll have to visit first though... i've never even been to florida. :)

cops can't be any worse than here... lol... $241 ticket because the cop decided to give me a ticket for 78 in a 50 when I was going 57 in a 55... Grove, Oklahoma... ask anyone who lives there... cops are liars and dick heads... lol

anyways, I talked to squid skins... it will cost me $3000 for front bumper and $3000 for rear bumper...

Thats $1500 for each mold and 1500 for each to get them made... so needless to say, I'm not getting it done right now... lol

Actually they made Talon parts, which I understand the hood, hatch, dash, doors, bla bla bla all go together but they never made an Eclipse front or rear bumper...only Talon.

I sent an email to squidskins yesterday, no reply yet... hopefully they can do it... cause i really think it would be be cool...

I want my front bumper, front fender, hood, rear apron, hatch, side skirts (maybe), and wing to be CF, then the doors and top to be painted... I'm kinda thinkin that'll be too much CF though, and i might pull a switch-a-roo and make the hood regular and painted, and the surroundings CF, or maybe just paint the CF hood... dunno

Diffusers... do they really help? I mean, is it noticeable? Not that it really matters since its just a show car...

thx
