Well its true the first day I got to drive my car after being turbo'd and I got rear ended on the way home from work.

It must just be the week for accidents then because 3 days after I got rear ended I saw a brand new STI rear end another car at a stop light. It happend right next to my wifes car too!

The insurance company hasn't come to appraise the damages yet, but the rear bumper is totally smashed and the tail lights are pushed in and the metal that goes around the back of the trunk is pressed in and smash my trunk panels pretty bad. I might have to cut out that section and weld in another section from another car.

I would hope its not considered totaled. I have no idea, I am just really pissed. I turbo the car and first day I drive it "SMASH!!!"

The insurance company is suppose to get ahold of me today and I will post pics after work.

If everyone could say a prayer for me and cross your fingers I would really appreciate it.

I just talked with the other persons insurance company and they said I need to take the car over to the adjusters on this wednesday at 5:30, so I will know something then.

If they say it's totaled they keep the car and everything on it and give you blue book value on the car. God that really sucks.

thanks man, does anyone know what would define my car as totaled? I would really like to know where I stand on this. I can't believe that if I take the car in and they consider it totaled, that I would not be able to remove any and everything I wanted from MY car.

My insurance company is not doing the appraisal for the damages. Its her insurance company that is looking at the damage and apprasing it.

If you got rear ended, I see no reason why you would have to take off the turbo kit, or anything.

Dude even if they do total it, you can buy it back for a certain amount. It sounds like all that is messed up is the rear body panel. Cut it out, weld a new one in, and use the left over money to fix the rest. They probably won't total it.

sad to hear that happened to you man. your car was one of the few full kitted eclipses i really liked a lot. im sure seeing the damage will bring a tear to everyones eye. good luck with having everything work out. keep us updated.

who rear ended you?? if a guy rear ended me I would have a hard time not smashing my face in. if a woman rear ended me I would scream myself hoarse and kick her door in.
at the very least take your rims off and put on some steelies, maybe take your CF hood off if you can, and remove the stereo if it's not already gone. those are easily removable pieces.

That's a fuckin shame man. Hope you get it back or at least get your parts off of it.

my friends talon got rear ended 2 days after I struggling doing a conversion to an eclipse and struggling trying to get it to fit. It went on but he gets rear ended 2 days later. Send me pics and I can give you an idea is its almost the same damage.

if you mean the bumper, it might not just be that. what you need to do is open the hatch, take off the spare cover, and take out hte spare, then look for and kinks in the unibody, i know when i got rearended the only visible damage was a big dent, but a closer inspection revealed a kinked unibody. wasnt my fault at all, so the girl who hit me's insurance company paid the full $3200 to fix it, and i got grey lettering instead of teal.
the other insurance company tried to dick me though, so be sure to get a second opinion from somebody other than their appraiser, as they only wanted to replace the rear bumper.

btw, i dont think any deal is final w/ an insurance company if you dont cash or deposit their check, but i dont know if that is true or not

Sorry to hear about the crash man I hope it works out for the best with the insurance co. I think it will be them thinking about trying to match the paint in the deciding factor on if its totaled or not. Unless the damage is real extreme. It happened with a 98 caddie sls I had because of the pearls in the paint they totaled it because the paint job pushed it over the edge, I think like 70% of its value with the damage.

Man I just heard.... dude sorry about your car...but make sure to talk to their insurance people like everyday and make sure if your car is totaled that you have the right to buy it back (seriusly when I get cars at my shop like yours, I beg the insurance company to let me buy it for parts, so keep on top of it....man once again sorry about your car)

That sucks... I bet the lady that hit you shit herself when she backed up and read your license plate... lol. Its gonna be quite a pain in the ass to fix that. Its kinda hard to tell how far its pushed in, but from the looks of the interior in the hatch is been pushed in quite a bit. I hope they fix it for you. Your car is one of my favorites here...

They gave me the option on a total payment minus salvage value. The only thing is you will need to get a new title, that isn't a salvage one check how your state works that. I wouldn't let it out of my site though and fix it out of pocket if thats what they are offering just drop the claim and fix it all yourself imo, take the loss if they want to total it. That way theres no mysterious missing parts and what not at the salvage/holding yard.

I did not buy the car back. They gave me a check for $5,3xx and i went out and bought a '99 black gs-t. Thank you 16 year old kid that was tailgating me while on the cell phone :+

You should buy it back and buy another 2g and put all the body panels/hood/interior(except the rear) on it :).

Then you'll have extra parts to use/sell.

Unless all you have to do is replace the rear panel and the body isn't smashed up.

I've heard that if they claim it totaled then I have the option of buying it back right then and there. They never actually take my car, it always stays in my possession.

Also I heard if they total it and give me the value of the car they will sell it back very cheap!

But also in my research in the past few days I've heard that the insurance company will always go with whats cheaper and that would be to pay for it to be fixed. They usually only total a car if the damage cost to fix it is more then the value of the cars current blue book rate.

Either way I have too much done to the car to not buy it back if they do claim it totaled.

Same here, I still cant see them.

can't see them.....but what's the blue book on your car. It's iffy if they will total it just cause the rear body panel is messed up. I just put a new rear panel, a hatch, a quarter, bumper and some other odds and ends on an 01 and the bill was just around 5,000 for the repair and paint work. From what it sounds like it won't be totaled.

blue book value on our cars is terrible. a dealership said blue book on mine was $4800cdn despite the low mileage, good condition, and mods.

mods get you nothing if not negative value to a dealer. A private party may pay for those, never a dealer.

From the looks of the pics I could see, when I got reare ended, it was alot worse. They didnt total my car either, but diff insurance company= diff decision. All my did was came to my work and cut me a 2500$ check. You should be ok.

I dont know if you got it figured out yet but I just recently went through this. My car was totalled and it wasnt my fault. I said I wanted to buy the car back and the adjuster called 3 local junkyards and I bought it back for the middle price that they would pay for it, $450. They just deducted that from the check that they issued me for my car. After I said I wanted to buy it back, I was free to tow the car to my house. You will have to get a salvage or R-title though if you do it this way. If I were you, I would do anything I could to buy that back.
