82049, need help with an idea Posted by eclipse982nrRST, Mar-02-05 11:44 AM
well heres the thing... the rear triangle windows, when i tried to get them out, i cut up the lower molding on the quarter panel pretty damn badly. they are also all scratched up badly. i wanted to get some new ones but dont wanna pau no $150 for them and no one has any on the board here either. i need an idea of something to do/make to cover these up. i thought about just mold the lower molding on the quarter panel to the actual body of the car but only bad thing i thought of with doing that is that if for some odd reason that window broke, there would be no way of getting it fixed. i need to do something, as custom of stuff i have made and thought of, i cant think of anything except molding it to the body. anyone have any ideas or thoughts of what the hell i can do?

Well this would go against your idea of having rear windows but... why don't you mold scoops in place of the windows, kinda like on an old Mustang or something. You could go uber-rice and tape a light rope around each window, light-ropes are the shiznit, right :rolleyes ummm... Fabricate some brushed aluminum trim pieces for around the window. Am I helping at all?

fix them the best you can then pour liquid rubber on them, trim it your done. :shrug or like the other guy said just make em. I would call some scrap yards or online to those junkyard parts request forms you fill out and someone gets back to you.

I was thinking a little more radical then that and fiber glass it too the body, thereby removing the need to get weather stripping. You probably would lose a lot of visibility. I kinda think brushed aluminum trim could be cool, but if not done right that could also be uber tacky, nevermind.

Bro take a picture of the problem windows or whatever and let me see what you are talking about. I have the quarter glass out of my car right now and i'm buying new.....they isn't anything wrong with them i'm just getting all new glass from my glass guy at the shop. he says you can't take the glass out without having to buy new glass but i don't see how that is.

If nothing pans out, I would smooth all the cuts and scrapes out with some epoxy, then just use some black adhesive vinyl to match the molding.

Its your car you do what you want...but I think those scoops are just plain fugly...Maybe leave out the scoops and still cover the window up?
Also have you tried the boneyard?

i like the scoop idea, but i have seen an eclipse where he basically molded in the window and covered it all with fiberglass which basically means no window there and in my opinion it is the ugliest thing i have ever seen. but that scoop idea i am feelin that, might have to try that one for myself

The reason why its difficult to cut and save those quarter windows is because of the "encapsulated" moldings. Basicaly they fuse the molding on there at the factory, and when you cut that glass out, you pretty much have to cut away that molding..there really is no way of saving it..not saying it can't be done, but it sure as hell wont be easy. Best way to do it would be to cut it out from the inside, using an air knife..(I work at an auto glass shop btw)
