81474, Any way to make power windows Faster?? and a wiper switch Q. Posted by scirio, Feb-09-05 08:59 PM
FIRST: Is there something I can do to make the windows roll up and down faster, a different/stronger motor perhaps. I know the spal kit motors make them FLY up and down, what can I do to replace stock ones?
SECOND I forget who it was on here that replaced their RS wiper switch with the GS+ wiper switch that has more controls on it (slower than slow, faster than fast anf the peice that turns on the end of it) So going off what they said about it working I went out and bought me one. Finnaly got around to installing it today and found out that it is 100% completely uncompatible. to explainn better, PICs coming shortly....
This may be useful for other people:
how they LOOK to driver:

Profile shot, this is the steering colomn side:

here you can see the harness connector is different, RS on top GS on bottom:

better shot of connector (RS has claer cover on cicuit board)

even better shot, RS on top

nah same ecu's in the RS/GS of the same year. is it possible the switches are from a different year eclipse? everyday we seem to find new and surprising differences between model years... the hard way of course :wary

I don't see why its really much of a big deal to upgrade the wiper switch. I have a GS and I constantly fiddle with the speed of the wiper, as long as it wipes clean I could care less if its within 5 seconds of the next stroke.

I have a 95 RS and I changed the wiper switch from a 95 Esi and they had the same shape connector. It must change in different years.

is that all you have to change is the switch or do you have to change the motor too?

Just the switch, it appears to have an embedded relay and circuitry that that I am sure tell the motor what to do. A motor is stupid, it just listens to the signals sent to it by the switch.

I am pretty sure what you have is two different year switches..last year my whole switch whent out and I went to the boneyard to replace it...what I found out is that the 95-96 switches is in fact different from the 97-99. I ended up using the switch out of an Avenger and it was exactly the same.

Cool. someone sell me a switch from a 97-99 with the adjustable delay.

i did the switch on my rs. whoever i got the switch from sent me the wires as well, so all i did was cut them and spliced it with the stock wires. works fine for me

thats what id do. there appears to be 7 pins on both harnesses. get the apropriate harness you need from a parts car....but instead of cutting/splicing, pull out the stachons and wires from the old harness, and just plug them correctly into the new/correct harness after removing the cut off wires/stachons from it (the new harness). shouldent take you more than 5 minutes if you know what order the wires should be in. then just plug and play

weird that it worked for you guys becasue on mine the whole switch assembl doesn't even fit into the slot that the old one does that a bigger problem than the wires hoking up. I can do the wire swap but I'd still have the switchbox hangin around dangling from the steering colomn. :shrug

oh, i guess we all thought the only prob was getting a wiring harness to hook up correctly. thats odd that the assembly wont even fit

so did you figure out if it's from a different year like we suggested?

Pretty sure it did, now. My last post was just full of spelling errors huh.
