What is the best way to hook up 97-99 oem fog lights on a 99rs? Should I wire them to the driving lights, sidmarkers or what? Just wondering since their isnt a plug or harness that came on my rs for them.

i run them off my parking lights. in all actuality i SHOULD and will do it right later on by wiring up a seperate relay for JUST the fog lights like the stockers have. you could use a switch or use the voltage from any of the lights to trip the relay. i personally drive with my fogs on all the time...and dont have a switch to turn them off since our headlights are so dim.

i have actually wired my aftermarket fog lights to the factory switch then tapped into the headlight low beam.

huh? so they are tapped into the low beams for power and off when you hit the high beams and they use the stock switch? Did you have oem foglights before and switch to after market foggers? OR is that just how you rigged it up (bought the switch from a foglight factory installed gs or something.)

Because I want to put foglights on my RS but never had stock ones but I DO have the switch that I bought off a parts car and its connected throught the harness there. The only reason I bought the switch panel is that that side of the dash looked so empty.

i have an RS too. i did like you said. instead of using the switch i got with the foglights, i bought one from the dealer and go the wiring harness from a junkyard. the power wire for the foglights is tapped into my low beam wire from me headlights and boom. they act like the factory fog lights. even mounted in the same location.

So if anyone could make a write up on the exact parts to get off of the donor car. and where to wire them in so they will work with the factory switch and not with the low beams, that would really be helpful.

i'll go ahead and tell you what you need to get tomorrow i'll look and see what wires i hooked up where. it's late tonight and i have to be at work at 6 so i'll make it quick.

you need:

aftermarket foglights
stock foglight switch
stock foglight pigtail(plug)
wire strippers
wire taps
drill for mounting foglights

that's about it. i'll send more. i know this is gonna keep you guys in suspense. sorry.

I just ordered my 97-99 factory foglights so I'll be waiting. When you say pigtails that means the harness from the foglight or the one from the car to the foglight. Thanks and I will be waiting for the write-up.

I have the hahn fmic on mine and it looks like it would be a pita to put the right one on where in intercooler piping runs. Is there any modification needed?

Never dealt with OEM fogs, but the simplest way to do this would be (assuming a two wire lead from each light) to run the two ground wires together and to a common ground on the chassis. Then you jsut need some switched power to run them. Of course, if there is a relay involved (which there should be) you're going to have to count on one of these guys to help you out, as I don't have the time right now. I wonder if you could get a replacement fog light harness with the relay from Autozone or something and just install the harness to your own lights? :shrug

ok here we go hopefully I can explain this without pictures but I'll get some taken once I get my camera back.

The pigtail I was referring to is the one that you'll have to get from a donor DSM from the factory foglight switch. On that pigtail you'll see 4 wires set up something like this

- 1 2 3

wire 1 = green/black wire
wire 2 = green/blue wire

wire 3 and 4 are for hooking up the light but I haven't done that yet. I'm kinda lazy about it.

wire 1 (green/black wire) will hook up to the factory headlight wires. if you have access to the underside of the headlight you'll see the plug for the headlight and the plug from the car. tap into the red wire on the one from the car.

wire 2 (green/blue wire) this will come from the foglight harness. the main power wire from the foglight harness will be spliced into wire 2.

I have done a search and have not found any big help thread pertaining to my problem. I already have these things but what all else do I need?

Already Have:
97-99 Foglights
Relay
Switch Panel
Fuses

When I looked into the under hood fuse box I could see that there were no wires going into the foglight relay hole but I was able to connect the switch because the dash was factory pre-wired for them. I don't know what else to get in order for these things to work. I do not want to do a custom install because I like it to be factory wired becuase it always works better that way. I have not checked the fuse box in the car to see if it was pre-wired or not yet. Also my brakets that mounted between the foglights and the front end brace are bent so I just removed them and mounted them straight to the brace, do you people think that will matter. Thanks and I might not have included all the details so feel free to ask.
