81071, For All You Electronic People. Help Me With Something Posted by EclipseTenzoR, Jan-30-05 05:19 PM
The other day at work it was slow and I was probably just sitting there outside looking at my car for 20 minutes brainstorming as I usually do on all the shit I'd like to do. I was thinking recently about this spring when I get some more money I'd like to integrate alot of neat shit you see on newer cars today or things uncommon on our cars. I would like to use relays to control different things like keeping my headlights on after the car is turned off and locked and have it shut off after a time interval. I'd also like to do a trunk popper with maybe an linear actuator of some sort so the hatch would open up all the way since its a bitch and likes to stick alot. Just thinking about all kinds of shit that I could add to my car as convience features. Anyone got any ideas? I'd like specific information on a timed relay for the headlights and how to do that if anyone knows.

Im using my car computer so I can control things like headlights, turn signals, door locks.. etc. Ill be able to push a button on my touch screen to control a function of the car.

Yea.... James.. Well you suck. Just playing, I'd love to have a banging setup just like that, but I dont have that kind of money and I'd like to add subtle features that are hidden.

Well.. how about replacing the window switches with new ones that have automatic features.

James, I would really like to see a video of the carputer setup now. Like controlling headlights signals windows etc. Was there software out already for that or did you have to program something in order for the carpc to understand it.

ill get together a video in the next week or two. the software has to be custom made and integrated into whatever software you use to run your car computer. there are control boxes called widgets that aid you in controlling anything you want via relays.

Stuff like this is truely amazing. I swear.. This is what modding is all about. Taking your stock car and making it even greater than it was ever intended to be. What do you do for a living James?
My 1000th Post... WooooWhooo Time To Celebrate :beer

I own two companies. www.nc-solutions.net We are a local network consulting firm that handles many companies in the area. The second company is called MOCCI Box, it makes car computers. I haven't really gotten the second company off the ground yet. Beeen too busy with NCS.

Very nice.. Tons of money in networking.. Thats what I plan to goto school for next year. Network Management to start off with then see where it goes.

i think an alarm with the right features is all you need. my alarm has the option of the headlights turning on after arm or disarm and it stays on for 30-60 sec. also, for the trunk popper, many alarms have an aux output. all you need to do is get the popper, install, and run the wire. hit up Mcubed for all that. IIRC he installed a trunk popper as well as linked his power windows to his remote.
its nothing like a carputer, but sounds cheaper and is more what your gunning for i think.

Phidgets... not widgets.
www.phidgets.com
USB controled relays and sensor inputs.
Bad james bad. I show you phidgets and you can't even get the name right? bad james bad.

lmao.. anyway... I have a really good alarm just need to get more sensors and relays for it. The alarm I have is the Viper 790XV. I dont want to add a relay to flicker my headlights when I lock or unlock because It is very bad for my ballasts on the HIDs. I just want a relay to leave my lights on after i remove the key from the ignition and auto-shutoff in 30 seconds or so.

hey, as was mentioned earlier you really just need an alarm with a lot of outputs. sorry to say that your viper does not have that. i know you have the top of the line paging system and whatnot but the drawback to that particular alarm is it's limited to about 3 channels if i remember correctly. i have the viper 800esp and it's got like 7 channels. here's what i've done so far:
remote trunk popper remote window roll down (just push a button and they roll down until you let go) auto window roll up on arming remote stereo activation
i've still got a couple more channels to use... i'm thinking about doing the headlights on remote or something. the 800esp is HIGHLY configurable as well. there's a lot of different programming actions as to how you want certain channels activated. b/c of this i can have my radio stay active after the car is turned off until i get out and close the door. it's all about the feature built into your alarm.
aside from the alarm the parts i've actually installed are pretty cheap. the most expensive would be the power windows i installed. the trunk popper was like $20 and the module for 'sensing' when the windows have rolled up all the way was like another $20. the rest is all relays and wires.
check out www.the12volt.com
awesome online resource for all the cool shit you could ever think to do to your car. hit me up later if you have questions on what else you can do an stuff. the carputer is a neat idea but relatively expensive. i also kinda get the feeling you want a lot more of these things to be operated by remote. i don't know if there's a control you can integrate into the carputer for this kinda functionality but if you want a lot of features controlled by remote, a high quality alarm is your best bet.

I'm with you there. I like the sometimes subtle mods that make my ride stand out from the others.
Current mods: Some of these mods were simple and some took way too much time. Most were ideas I found here or at the12volt.com and I modified them for my application.
HIDs turn on with remote start if desired. (Daytime running lights with manual bypass) Windows roll down by remote and roll up at alarm arming. Windows go to vent position automatically during remote start. Remote control trunk release. Sound system stays on until last door is closed. Ipod plays and pauses automatically with vehicle stop/start. Remote start locked out by proximity detectors and motion detectors. LED license plate lighting Fuel gauge mod. In-the-door LED lighting for window and door lock switches. Door chime mod. http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=7&topic_id=74185&mesg_id=74212&page=
www.the12volt.com is chock full of ideas to further automate systems with easy to obtain relays etc. It's worth looking into for ideas those of us with more analog minds.
Note: To fix your trunk latch so you only have to pull the release once read this thread. http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=7&topic_id=69242&mesg_id=69242&listing_type=search
Current projects as time allows: Auto-opening hatch mod.
Full LED taillamp conversion including center section lights. http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=7&topic_id=79502&mesg_id=79530&page=

someone did a hatch opening mechanism awhile back and set it was a MAJOR PITA. he needed a custom motor and everything built. it's a neat idea but i think the cost and time for that particular mod prolly won't make it worth it unless you wanna wow your friends an stuff.

Thats what I'm trying to do add convient stuff for myself, and cool shit that will make my friends nut in their pants.. I want my Eclipse to have all kinds of neet shit you would only see in a Mercedes or Lexus.. I'd love to sound proof my car too but that just adds to much weight.

that could work for the headlights rite.. A time delay?
Ohh damn.. did some more brainstorming.. I deff need this for my car.. You guys mentioned the power windows up and down feature.. Now he is my idea. I want the one that controls up and down for the windows and I want another one that operates the sunroof. I also would like to add a rain sensor so that if it starts to rain they close automatically. Now with my remote because of lack of channels Im curious.. I have lock, unlock, aux, panic. Aux is now the remote start. Could it be possible if I hit one of the other buttons twice it will do the windows.. like unlock twice windows down.. lock twice.. windows up? I love this shit man.. Its gonna be my new kick on things to do as soon as I get my rims.
