im redoing all the button lights in the car, ac, cruise, etc. im using 3mm leds, i did a couple of them using 100 ohm resistors and the look awesome but somebody told me i might blow them quick with those resisters so i got some 470 ohm resisters but with these the lights barely even light up at all.

what would you recommend? the 100ohm resistors look perfect, should i just finish up using those?

does anybody with an ohm meter know how much voltage is coming out of these buttons? is it 12 or less?

most of our bulbs now have LED's that are direct replacements (no resistor necessary). for the HVAC contorls i used some that had resistors built in too... i'm pretty sure they're 100ohms though. if not your LED's should have their max current/voltage specs so you can just calculate from there.

V=I*R

From the specs you'll know what not to exceed. Your total voltage drop across the resistor AND led is gonna be about 12v (unless your electrical system isn't working properly... :P )

easiest thing is to use led's with built in resistors though

#74 bulb size for our gauge cluster and most of the HVAC controls. the AC uses a tiny little bulb so that's where you would use a resistor/LED.

Quick question: I've been wanting to change my interior lights but I can't seem to get to the bulbs. How do I get to them? How do I remove the AC/defroster stuff?

do a search for HVAC or led conversion or somethin like that. there's a LOT of good info posted on doing this. even detailed writeups on the AC button (which is probably the trickiest part).

On the hvac controls you can now buy colored leds that are a direct fit replacement, no need to solder on that one.


I couldnt find any write ups for all the other buttons, but I just successfully changed all mine, if you have questions let me know.

Did you do the cruise control? Is it an led or does it have a bulb?

The cruise control is both, the center portion is a bulb that can be replaced with a led, the on/off sides are LED's. They appear to be 3mm and _should_ be a direct replacement. Should just be able to buy 3mm blue or whatever color, unsolder the correct leds and solder new ones in. Haven't tried it on mine yet, it currently the only non-blue light on my whole dash. I plan on doing it soon and will take some pics and let you know how it goes.
