80778, heater controll relocation done easy... Posted by got_NX, Jan-24-05 12:47 AM
Well I have read many of people asking how to do this...well I just looked at it...easy....! First you need to use stock ends on cables..so we save these. Either way you turn knob on controls we have 1/2" to work with putting stock ends back on new cable. Ok, remove stock cables but remember how they work. cut each end off allowing 1/2" of stock cable to remain on end. Now our new cable is bicycle brake cable. This we will have to cut jacket and cable to size we need to do our relocation. So to get correct lenght with the stock cable in place w/o being moved measure exposed wire on both ends that is what you have to make your new cable look like. Cut new cable to fit your new location attach stock ends to bike cable with small clamps you can get them at lowe's. and install cable back into assembly...and there you have it relocated controls...
To simplify, 1. take stock cable measure exposed cable after jacket. 2. new cable will be longer but same lenght cable exposed after jacket

sounds pretty self explanitory, if u have ever pulled out the controls you would see what he was talking about. didnt think of using brake cable, good call.

i think one major problem with relocation isnt HOW to do it..its WHERE to put it. you can mount the controls anywhere..its just a matter of extending everything...but the kicker is putting it somewhere where it looks good. personally the best place iv seen is in the glove box..but its pretty useless cuz if its in a daily driver i dont wanna lean all the way over there..and plus..it dosent look all that great IMO. the best idea iv heard so far is to rig everything up to a car-puter

I made one cable up and it works with no problem. My next thing is to relocate the no/off switch so it is with'n reach for driver. I'm looking into maybe a different switch, I'd like to leave the other one in place. Or another good location with'n reach those who do fiberglass work can locate it in arm rest of console. But your whole console will be different because it won't fit into stock opening so fabricating is involved.

I wanna do something where you can redo the controls by using different switches that are smaller.

3g switches are smaller and fairly similar to ours

What I would absolutley love to do is use the automatic climate control system out of a 3000gt because its smaller and custom glass that in something. Now I am talking out my ass because I don't have the money to do shit like this and if I did I'd put it into other things, but I'm just saying its an idea I have always thought about. Our cars are like a damn submarine with everything fogging up on the inside, I get tired of moving the dials from 4-2 and from warm to cooler and setting the air to my feet or having to crack a window in the winter just because all the windows get fogged. Maybe my a/c is screwed up. All I know is when I drive places with people in my car we cant talk very long or the windows get fogged up really quick.. lol.. By the way sorry for the long post.

If you would take controls out you would see how easy it is. Actually to move these to the glove box you already have everything. All cables can be swaped around to work. No making cables unless your moving them futher. And then the other thing you would have to do is extend all wiring. Very simple.

I understand the technicalities of it, but what I was saying was if you have done this please post pictures because I'm sure most of us would like to see how you made out with it.
