For those who have been successful what did you use? I redid mine a couple years ago with vinyl and it looked great, but after a year started to fall down. I think the vinyl I used was too thick and heavy perhaps.

Im going to the fabric store today, what should I look for?

Did you use glue when you did it the first time? It should stay if you use some 3M spray glue.

I used 3m glue the first time and it fell after about a year. so im doing it again with a lighter vinyl and im using a mixture of 3m glue and hot glue from a gun. im getting this strange bubble effect with the vinyl i used this time, at first it freaked me out but it looks kinda cool. i just hope the damn thing stays up this time.

Hot glue will dry and make lumps underneath it. I don't know if I would use that. Good luck.

there is some stuff from wal-mart is a fabric adhesive. when you get it it's in a plastic like form and you just cut it and lay it over you headliner, lay your fabric on that and then iron it and boom it'll start to stick. i just did it and it was easy and looks awesome. try that and see what you think.

i used 3m adhesive spray. about 12 bucks per can at Home Depot. Very strong shit.

and IMO its worthless to fiberglass your headliner because no one will ever notice it unless its a show vehicle with everything else glassed.

There's a spray adhesive that comes out like spider webbing, use that. The hairspray consistency of the 3M stuff makes it soak in and not hold well, the webbing stuff doesn't soak in and is strong as fuck. It's what we used when carpeting boxes at the shop.

ya use that stuff. Its the stuff that i bought at Home Depot.

i redid my headliner with a kit from either Jegs or JCWhitney (both mail order parts catalogs) i redid mine in black and it loooks great, it's very thick, plush and soft and wont fall down for a looong time

Save your money and buy a carbon fiber headliner - you will thank me later - it completely changes how you look at the inside of the car.

do you know a company that sells the cf headliner? i found some on ebay but they didnt have a sunroof cutout :(

Ya I have a TopShop Fiberglass Headliner and I like it a lot and had no probs with fitment or anything. I have had it in my car for prob. at least a year or so.

yeah i have the carbon fiber headliner in my car it looks so good i got the carbon fiber pillars and dash cover..makes it flow a lot better

I worked at an upholstery shop years ago and I can tell you the only glue that works really well and never lets go is the vinyl top glue(contact cement) sprayed out of glue pots. You can go to a shop and ask for a can of it and then brush it or use a spray gun on both sides that are to make contact. Headliner material is great if you want the exact stock look but I have found many people prefer something not so sensitive to cuts and staining. The nicest headliners Ive done were made of suede but you have to be really clean with that material.

i just used headliner material... went from the stock tan/gray to a nice solid black. i got rid of my visors an stuff at the same time too. it looks really really clean. i'll take pics later. keep in mind that if you're keeping your visors, they will not match if you change to a different headliner material/color. our visors are a major PITA to take apart and re-upholster and very few have actually done it.

also a lot of the writeups in the archive are for changiner your headliner color/material only. these writeups ential you keeping your stock material and just putting another material/bedsheet over it. this WILL NOT WORK if your headliner is already falling down. you need to remove the old material and scrape off all the old foam padding. the headliner is sagging because the foam deteriorated over time. the foam padding makes up the layer between the outer material and the cardboard backing piece.

my headliner was sagging so i redid the whole thing (removing all the old material). that was about 2 years ago or so and i haven't had a single problem. lol sadly it's probably the nicest part of my interior right now... :P

Painted my visors black to psuedo-match my Carbon-Fiber headliner. Also painted all the plastic around sunroof button, and trim around sunroof black. It all looks good.
