I am very interested in purchasing all the items from squidskins and have attempted to contact them to no avail. Anyhow, maybe someone here can answer this: Are the pieces infact fiberglass skinned in carbon as the name of the company implies, or are they 100% carbon?

I recently talked to them about pretty much the same thing.

he informed me that he wont be making any more carbon fiber parts due to customer complaints. his carbon is more the racing type and isnt the pretty show look. racing carbon is thinner, and usually looks a bit rough. its intended to be painted over.

the carbon trunk I saw from squidskins was beautiful, but it might have been fixed up or something. all of their stuff was very pricey, though.

So the VIS pieces are the some of the better looking products on the market? Right now I'm planning on making a light weight all motor contender and then when I'm satisfied with the performance then going turbo. Well, actually will be two different cars, one for me(turbo), and one for the wife. Thanks for the help.

light weight? go with fiberglass everything because it is much easier to paint, repair, and costs much much less. change your windows to lexan, that saves gads of weight. strip your interior. get a racing bucket seat. take out passenger seat and back seat, take all of the door panels and side panels out (those big ones on either side of the back seat weigh quite a bit). carbon fiber hood for sure. drill holes in all the interior metal surfaces (ie. door jams, the inner panels of the doors, so on, underside of the trunk but don't go all the way through it). get 15" or 16" racing rims. remove the entire exhaust... take out the spare tire. remove the dash and fab an aluminum racing one. you could probably remove the driver's side window altogether and get a net if you are doing road course racing (which is much much more fun then all-motor drag racing)..... remove the big plastic thing on the inside of the front bumper, that is a very heavy piece... make your windows completely fixed and remove the interior part altogether, that'll make the outside really flimsy though but who cares, it's a race car...
