79130, Holes in my car Need help !
Posted by Eclipsemblue, Nov-30-04 03:42 AM
Sup ppl, i had recently thrown on a turbo wing on my eclipse RS well that than left me with the holes from the stock low cut wing and god damn there are alot of those tiny holes. I was wondering what is a temporary solution to patching them up and making it look alittle better than just seeing a bunch of holes in my car like i was in a drive by in newark.
I went to 2 places one shop i asked them to weld up my holes and paint it and i would supply them all the paint materials.. they wanted 750 so i told them fuck that, the other shop i went to was gonna bondo the holes up... i dont want bondo since it can crack they wanted 350 with me including the paint for them which you figure for the hole 3 peices is gonna be about a quart so you talking around 250 for the paint. Anyone got any ideas for a temporary patch up of these holes so it looks alittle better, any help is appreciated thanks guys

For a TEMPORARY solution...go to a shop that deals with signs/vinyl, and look through their selection, find the one that best matches your car (you're fucked if you have a kandy or other such color) and ask them how much for say...7 inches(or whatever) of that. Then take it and see what you need to cover the hole. Then cut out squares or circles for individual holes..or one big rectangle for all of 'em. and BAM! no more holes, and if the vinyl matches the paint well enough, you'd have be right next to it to see that something's not right. (trust me, I took my turbo wing off for a week once just to see if the look would grow on me, I did this temp. fix then, BUT my car is just black, so it was a decent match with plain gloss black vinyl.)

NOW...if you want the permanent fix, take it to a shop that will do what the other offered for 750...they'll cut a small piece of metal, weld it in and sand it smooth, then paint over. What's costing you on that one is labor, BUT you never have to worry about cracking or coming out, etc...

the only way to patch is to bondo or do it right and have it welded...and 750 is pretty decent. i have heard people quoted over a grand for the work. there is no magic cheap fix unless you yourself are a professional welder and can do the job yourself. pay the 750 and get it done right. this is the reason why i sold my turbo spoiler before i installed it...too much money and work just to get a little add on like that.

Hey 40 bucks do it yourself then take it to be sprayed, if you can't paint it yourself($200). If you do the bondo right it won't crack to hell, only crappy prep jobs make bondo crack imo.I still had to use bondo even after welding the holes closed specially where the BIG wing was, it made some small (pull) spots. And alot of times the thin metal warps after welding so filler is sometimes needed anyways(at least spot putty).

you really need to weld the big hole in the middle. that is way to much of an area for fiberglass and bondo in my opinion.

You could buy a new hatch that doesn't have the holes. Go to a junk yard and try to find one that close to your color, if not, then get it painted. That will be better than welding or bondo and probably be about as cheap as the bondo.

I made friends with the body shop guy and he only charged me $45 to do it. Welding the holes and painting. Haha

I did mine myself, the way that I did it was the way that Pushin420a told me too. I got some bondo and some metal pieces that fit over the holes, and used some fusor, he tells you the best kind to get if you read his post about it, and then when it dried, finally, I went over the top with some bondo, and patched the wholes up.

or you could hit the holes with the round end of screw driver (the handle) and then sand down to bare metal around the holes, slap some fglass cloth in it, glass it up, then use bondo or duraglass over that and sand it smooth. thats what i did and its been fine for 2 years. i actually had to drill through 2 of the holes on the side of the trunk for my gtr spoiler and they didnt even crack, just a hole where i drilled. but if you want an easy temp fix, just spray paint the little plastic pieces the color of your car and plug the holes with those. im talking about the little white pieces that plug into the holes on the trunk. i did that for like 3 weeks before i filled them and actually never got an rain or anything inside the trunk. fuck though, just my .02
