just wanted to know if anyone has ever re-located the hvac controls (aka heater, a/c switches and shit above the radio)? i wanted to know how to do it because i heard you have to extend the lines on them or something. i am looking to either put them in the glove box, custom seated in the center console near the back, or fiberglassed into my headliner up top ...
anyone know anything on these?

i am pulling apart my parts car right now...so i will look to see what could be done...i know some people have done it. I'll get in there nad look though.

thanks man. ya i searched for relocating them and all i got was "its a bitch" and what not and no one ended up trying it, lol. im sure it can be done because i have seen it done in pics on different photo links.

i'm pretty sure it's not that big of a bitch if you can manage to get it out,lol, i'm also pretty sure you'll have to extend the wires no matter where you put it, the glovebox would be the easiest location IMO, since you're not gonna be adding a foot or more of extra wire...

Anyone know of the switches that can be used for the a/c and temp control area? I would LOVE to move my gauges into the HVAC area...

Its been done quiet a few times in the glove box. Some one ones posted links on the easiest way to remove them but i am havin troubles finding it. It would look pimp if you could relocate them to your headliner. Thats got to be a pain though if you figure that out make sure you post how you did that.

Edit: Mike i like that body kit alot looks really clean. was thinken bought gettin the same thing while back but decided to stick with factory body

i did it...sorta. if you wanted to keep the controls at complete functionality, all you would have to do is find longer cables (junkyard or such) and extend the wires for the low-high ajuster and a/c button. i chose to not do that mach, as i really dont need all the settings..so what i did was this:

1) relocate the ac button to the cig lighter. it fits in there pretty well, although will will have to file down the inside a bit and find a way to secure it (i just pressure fit it in)

2) because i never used any setting to change the air flow..i just set the cable on the defroster vents and left it. i wanted to keep it there for windshiled defogging/defrosting, and considering the weather is so mild in the south, i didnt really need any other settings.

3) for the mechanical cable that controls the heat/cold...i just pushed it into the "hot" setting and disconnected the cable completely. i never used the "cool" setting anyway..thats what windows and a/c are for, lol. the a/c automatically overrides the "hot" setting.

4) for the low/med/med-high/high controls (i think theres 4 of them)...it took a bit of work. i disassembled the switch be CAREFUL..shit will go flying everywhere) and traced what wires were connected to what contacts in certain settings. then i used two simple on/off switches (3 prongs) to wire up two switches. one turned the air OFF/LOW. when that switch was in the LOW position, i rigged another switch to be activated so that i could then go to MED and HIGH. one of the levels was left out because it would have required another switch (or a more complex 3-way switch..which i didnt have or care about buying). unfortunatly, i dont have the schematic i made to tell you what wire does what. you can figure it out though once you disassemble the controller.

so in the end..i had full a/c control, with a/c off it was automatically set to "hot", and i had three levels of airflow adjustment, but no vent control (defrost vents only). all without having to use extra mechanincal cables (or any at all). worked for me!

Negative. If you have the knob in the RED (full heat) regardless of vent choice, and push the A/C button to illuminate the Green LED, it kicks the compressor on. The air coming out of your vents is pushed by the evaporator (drying it out so it will not fog the windows) and then past the heater core warming it up since your selsctor knob is on full heat.

well... it didnt for mine, i got ice cold air from the a/c with this setup. i have no idea why, lol.

does anyone know if you can make so it won't turn the ac on if you put it on defrost??? I absolutley hate that.

95's didn't do that, along with that they also had a two stage A/C button.

^^mine was a 95..that explains a lot, lol. i believe theres a writeup for neons somewhere, im not sure how similar the wiring is though.

and no, unfortunatly i didnt take any pictures. there wasnt much to see though, just the a/c button in the cig lighter, and 2 switches next to it (right in front of the shifter, below the radio/pocket area).

If you disassemble the vent selector knob, there is a metal tab behind the windshield defogger selection that makes contact as the knob is rotated to that selection. Bending the tab, or dremeling it so that no contact is made will prevent the A/C compressor from being activated when choosing the defogger vent.

I saw it done on some Orange Eclipse...he moved the whole HVAC into the glovebox. I am trying to find the pic.

djtrickee has the best idea IMO. carpc with a touchsrceen and the hvac controls on the touchscreen.

I talked to some guy about this like a year ago. he did his into the glove box and if i recall, he told me you can get the cables and like home depot or lowes??? he said they are just like plastic rod things or suptin. i dont see it hapening in the headliner like i planned on. i was planning on putting the controls in the headliner on the pass side and my safc in the headliner on the driver side to take up the mirrors place. well, i guess im either going to re-locate them into the glove box or the middle of the center console where the cup holder is. undecided yet.

actually, come to think of it, i wont be able to put them in the center console because the cables would get in the way of the shifter ...
i wonder if would even have to extend the wiring and cables if i put them next to the cig lighter in that little plastic piece. like above the shifter/boot.

the controls (as a whole) wont fit in the center consol or right above the shifter because of depth problems. the glove box is by far the best idea...you MIGHT even be able to get away with using the stock cables..but you will have to extend the wiring no matter what (thats the easy part though, lol).

I relocated mine, Extending all of the wires was a pain in my ass! Oh man was it ever! I will post pics in the next couple days.
