78702, So what do you guys think of my first time painting?
Posted by DJ420a, Nov-14-04 05:49 AM
Well, those of you who remember me getting hit by the idiot ricer who was riding my ass, I finally got my new parts and Ive been working nonstop for the past week. For those of you who dont know, go here,http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=38&topic_id=159364&mesg_id=159364&listing_type=search . I did run into some probs with the back bumper, so I ended up molding it to the body. You notice something missing? I got rid of the park bench of a wing, lol. Well let me know what you guys think. This was my first time using an HVLP spraygun, so gimme your opinions and suggestions.

The problem that I had will vary for each rearend. The problem I had is, you know on the side where the tip of the tailights are? Then where the bumper meets the body theres a vertical line and to a paralell line? The paralell line matched up flush, but the vertical line, there was like a 1/2" gap in between the body and the bumper. I hope I explained that good enough and didnt confuse you.:)

Well first off, I have to decide what color. Its just primed for the winter, for now. The only reason I did it before winter, is because of the accident I was in. I just wanted to get the bumper back on and get the car running again.

Speaking of the color a clear, thats what really scares me. I learned its not that hard to spray primer. Im hopin color and clear are atleast half as easy as what of Ive done so far.

Nice job so far. I did my interior and it came out nice but I wanna try doing body panels next. What kind of equipment did you use? I recently purchased a 5.5 Peak HP, 200 psi compressor that came with all the attachments including an air spray gun. Is that good enough to paint body panels with? I wanna try repainting my front bumper to see how it comes out.

Man I want to see that machine painted. I almost got the F-1 fenders, they are the only fender I like for our cars. Can't wait to see what color you end up painting it.

AHHH THE SUSPENSE!!!

Looks good! What I'd suggest is going to a friendly body shop and watching their painters in action. There's a lot of little things you can do for a better paint job. A lot of it has to be learned over many years though, but maybe at least you can get some ideas.

About that back bumper fitment issue, I had that same problem with my blitz rear. The easy way to solve it is to fiberglass and bondo the gap so it lines up better. Molding a rear on was a little too permanent for me, especially with the risk of cracking it where it's molded on. Just don't ever flat-bed tow your car...mine couldn't make it on (I had to remove the rear bumper in order to get the car on the flat bed).

Definitley noted, thanx for the info about towing. I kinda have a personal towing service, but you never know. As for the painting, good idea, I actually do know of a friendly paint shop.

Thanx man
