78207, New CF hood from Splitting Images $350 shipped (pics)

Here's new pics of my Carbon fiber hood from Splitting Images. Really nice perfect fit OEM hood. I had to drill hood pins which was harder than I thought. I have a crack in my hood from the top drivers side from DHL fucking it up during shipping so I might be getting a new hood once the claim falls through. Well anyways here's some new pics me and Ryan took just recently. I shoulda got some pics of the engine bay. I also just finished a 6bolt 4G63 in my 2g after getting crankwalk. Still working out some boost lagging problems. But the car is bascially done with. I am not touching it anymore. I want to save and buy a 240sx after December. Cya this time at the 2005 Dsm Shootout.

(Ryan photoshopped this pic)

That looks like a really nice hood for a very managable price. Can you get some pics of the hood up close? I've been looking for a new hood but I dont want to pay 150 for shipping to get one off ebay.

I just ordered one, thanks for posting the deal. Wish me luck with DHL. It's getting painted as soon as it arrives.

I just emailed the order form as an attached .doc file and a .html file incase they dont have word. Is that all you all do when you order from them?

Edit: What are the turbo guys w/ CF hoods doing about hood liners so the paint doesnt fade? Where you getting hood pins from?

Nah, you should be fine w/ a stock hoodliner, I just meant if it didnt have any hoodlinder @ all... I didnt know a stock hood liner would match up to that CF hood, but then again, I havent seen a stock hoodliner in ages.

Splitting Imagez charged me and gave me a tracking # 1 1/2 weeks ago saying it had left their building, DHL said there has been no activity, no pickup scan or anything? wtf. All my other DHL shipments have been fine other than them being rough on packages...

ON a side note: splitting imagez went to some import show, and while they are out of town, if you place an order for anything but rims and tires, you get free shipping. IF they ship it.

Could you see the tracking results? Or what was the deal?
78562, RE: New CF hood from Splitting Images $350 shipped (pics)

Nope couldnt see anything on the tracking results. I called DHL and they said they didnt know where it was and i called Splitting Images and had them file an insureance claim on the lost hood. Then it turned up a few days later in Ohio and was stuck there for like 7 days becuase they couldnt find a way to ship it without damageing it becuase it was so big but they still fucked it up....DHL sucks....But the customer support is friendly....i had some lady look around for it and track it and she called me when they found it...just get ready to file an insureance claim.

Lol... sounds fun... Things I wish I would have known ahead of time :-) I hope they pad the corners atleast?

I am keeping faith that they(SplittingImagez) are just dickin w/ me and havent shipped it yet.. because I have used DHL a lot lately and tracked perfectly and not had a single issue. But nothing as big as a hood...

they pack the hood great...but dhl had it and handled it so fuckin much that the corners of the hood slowly cut through the styrofome blocks on the corners and then through the box...

After another week of having Splitting Imagez 'look into' the missing hood issue, they found they havent shipped it yet, then proceeded to tell me they were backed up on 50 hoods right now... so they were just stalling me and wasting time.. bad business tactics, but if you can wait for the item, might be a resonable priced shop?

I got my hood the mail, just wanted to let anyone know that is having troubles with this place. DHL did i great job, shipped the hood from Cali to Indiana in 4 business days, packing was great, no probs at all with it being banged up. So Splitting Imagez was just stalling until they could get the hoods in stock, which is better than the hood actually turning up missing, but still...

Ohh here is the hood, found it on ebay. I would call it A-stock on the top side and B-Stock on the bottom. The top of mine was fine, the CF pattern was good, a little bit of wave in a place or 2 in the top coating. The underside is horrible, it is patched in places where it was not finished correctly. I will live because I am having the thing sanded and painted anyways, but for those that are just gonna bolt it on... I'd get a VIS or something higher quality. There appears to be no holes or anything for a stock hood liner. It is just a 1 piece fiberglass backing... i thought it would be a similiar skeleton looking structure like our hoods is.. but its not bad... just slap some kind of heat shield on and your good to go.

you can get this hood cheaper on ebay, btw

78811, My Problem with SplittingImages

Well, let me type out this story.

I ordered my hood from them well over 2 months ago, and I received it about 3-4 weeks before this thread ever started. I had to wait to get it put on and when I did, all hell broke loose.

First of all, let me just tell you what condition the box was in. HORRIBLE. The front and back was all cut up, but the hood was safely secure inside the box. The hood appeared to have swirl marks on the front clearcoat, but nothing I couldn't deal with.

Go to put the hood on. It won't latch. WTF. We look under the hood and lower the bump stops. Goes a little further, won't latch. Dammit. We raise up the latch as much as we could, about 1/8". Won't latch still. Fuck.

Now we are wondering if it is hitting on something. Put a little white stuff down on the highest points. Slam the hood down, won't latch still. We play with it a little more and come to find out it is hitting on my strut tower. Take it off. Won't latch.

Dammit, now I'm pissed. We start looking at what the problem could be. I pull out a measuring tape and find out the latch on the hood, (that is pictured above) is a full 1/3-1/4" shorter than the stock one. The damn U is not long enough to push the latch down all the way to lock it.

Okay, pull it back off, put strut tower back on, put OEM hood back on.

I call splittingimages the next day and talk to Dan. He tells me he needs to talk to the manufacturer, he'll call me the next day. Next day, nothing. I call him the following day. He says, "yeah, I was going to call you today." The manufacturer wants to see comparison pictures of the latches. Fine, I go back out to my buddy's mechanic shop (15 miles away), take pictures, drive up to where my car is being stored, because my insurance is now taken off my car and I can't drive it anymore.

Send him pictures. I'll get back to you tomorrow. No call. I call him the following day again. "I never got your e-mail" Okay, I'll send it again, hyperlinks this time, with a "certified e-mail". He gets it, opens it, DELETES IT. WTF. I call him back that day. He sent the pictures to the manufacturer. He says he will call me on Friday because they are gone the following week to SEMA. Okay.

No call Friday.

Monday I call. Dan was fired. This other guy wants to look at the pictures. They are not there. Please resend. Send again. He gets them. Here is what I need to do, send the hood back, via DHL, exactly as they shipped it out. Okay, I threw away the wood blocks, and some of the bubble wrap got taken away in the wind. I'll make due. I call soem box places, $60 for a box shaped that way. Fuck that, I'm sending it in the original tore up box with some reinforced edges, etc. Just got it boxed up today and a DHL label FAXED to me from splittingimages.

It will be picked up tomorrow, inspected by the manufacturer, and they will send out a new hood. Fuck.

I'll let you guys know how long this takes.

Well man thats the same thing that happened to me when i got mine today but my bad luck so far had been through DHL. First they say they are going to be a day late, then they say that they never had the hood but behold it finally has tracking status on it, wait a couple a days and on the day it supposed to arrive DHL says that they are going to be a day late now. So today is the day late and i call them again, now they tell me that the hood is there but it looks damage, so I get pissed and go check it myself at their station. While I'm driving over there my mom calls me and tells me that DHL called me and told her that they have lost my hood, so I'm like WTF when i get there the hood is in just bubble wrap and the box is gone DHL sain they had to get rid of it because how damaged the box was in, when i check it the hood seemed fine from what i can see so before they say that their going to send it tomorrow and mess it up i call my family to just pick it up because i had to go to wrk already.
Now here comes the problem with the hood. Whe I unwrapp everything seems fine exept a few nicks on the hood but once i try to install it the bolts r to short to bolt on correctly. It looks like if the manf. didn't thread the holes enough to fit the factory bolts but to make matters worse once i close the hood to see if it will lock it doesn't the passenger side is sitting higher than the driver side but when i take off the bolts and just put the hood on without bolting it down the hood locks maybe i'll just SI a call tomorrow also and let them know.
