77994, My car ate a deer :/ Need some insurrance advice Posted by Super20G, Oct-17-04 06:42 PM
I have full coverage. I dont think I have ever used it before though. Just wanted to know what people have done when they have had damage to aftermarket stuff?
The front fascia is toast, front pass fender is bent, headlight might be cracked (its late), FMIC is bent, doesnt leak, just minor cosmetic damage to that, and hood is hit a smidge.
I dont know what to do about the Apexi FMIC and Stillen front bumper. Anyone have any suggestions? I doubt a body shop can quote for aftermarket parts.
Here is a late night snap shot of the damage, not too bad, just clipped em'.

When I got ran over 2 years ago the body shop I go to added a new FMIC and everything into the quote. As far as the bumper goes they'll probably just give you the money for a new OEM front bumper, which is still expensive. I believe it was around $300 so that might cover your stillen bumper, I don't know.

when i was hit by a deer last year, the body shop wrote out a quote for my parts and insurance verified it. well once i got the check from the insurance people, it's was back to the stock front, got a lip, hood, mirrors and handles painted, new lights, etc...and still managed to pay off the deductible with the check. 1,000 dollar deductible, 3300 in damage, 2400 in new parts. so yeah, cost me a 100 bucks to fix it. not too bad.

Super if you have reciepts for the aftermarket parts many insurance companies used to honor them. I know state far did but now you just take your car to a approved shop and they submit the estimate to the insurance. Not sure about other insurance companies.

here's what i've learned from my experience with insurance quotes...
1) if the aftermarket part is cheaper to buy than the stock, then they'll let you get it (for example, new aftermarket headlights are cheaper than new OEM ones or a CF hood will be cheaper than a stock ones, since the CF doesnt need paint) -and- 2) work/talk with the guy doing the estimating and see what he can put in with the quote, he SHOULD know how to get you a bit more stuff without pushing the quote through the roof on you.

Well, I talked to the insurrance company and filed the claim. The insurrance company said I can take it to a few select body shops they approve, or I can have an adjuster come out and look at it, so that's what I am gonna do. Then they will cut me a check and I can get it fixed wherever.
I have invoices for the Stillen bumper and Apexi FMIC, so I am gonna give them to the adjuster and see if he will add them in. *crosses fingers*.
Here is a before pic of the apexi fmic, know any good deals on fmic's? hahn's kit is 900, not looking to break the bank though.

I'll post an engine bay pic tonight if I remember, that pic of the FMIC/engine bay is old, has changed since then.
I called stillen and they have the bumpers ready to ship. If all goes well with the adjuster in the next few days, then I am good to go.

78123, UPDATE: ADJUSTER LOOKED @ THE CAR Posted by Super20G, Oct-22-04 05:40 AM
Well, the adjuster came out and looked at the car today, I wasnt home, but he called and gave me some of the run down. I still have to wait for the paperwork and check to come in the mail. This guy is contracted out by the insurrance company to do this stuff, so I hope he doesnt stiff me.
He included in the report, a front bumper priced at 699, so i can get another stillen if I decide to, and to replace the passenger fender, drivers fender, hood, and thats all. The pass fender wasnt damaged by this, but he saw a ding and included it, he didnt ask me about it so I figure that since I didnt lie I didnt do anything wrong :) Enough bad shit happens to me anyways, bout time something positive happened.
I couldnt get him to include the intercooler :/ He said it was scratched but looked functional, WTF. The body parts are scratched but are still functional, why replace them, bastard. I shoulda said, I'll be there in a minute to run a screwdriver across your radiator fins, tell me how that makes you feel :/ But he said if the body shop deems that it needs replaced, then they can submit a form and they will pay me back for it, so hopefully I can get them to do that.
Do you think I should have the body shop do the work, or just have them spray the parts and install them myself?

Sorry to see that happen...since you're getting quite a few parts replaced, I would just have a good bosy shop install and paint it all. Most good shops will warranty their work, so that way you don't have to worry about it. Your insurance might require that a shop does all the work too, in order to guarantee it is truly back to original condition.
