77876, converting to power antenna?
Posted by invaznGST, Oct-13-04 06:02 AM
alright, i got a 95 GST. the antenna is just a metal pole that DOES NOT move up or down.. and it's long and makes my car ugly. so ever since i've had it.. i just unscrewed the antenna and put it in the garage. but lately i've been into listening to the radio.. is it possible to put a power antenna from a 97-99 eclipse or whatever onto my 95 GST with non-power antenna? do i have to wire shit up?

i've got a 99rs and i've got a power antenna off my friends 97 gs the plugs are the same but i think the cord running to it is different from the radio this one has a short part coming off it with the male end on it.
i'll sell it for 25 shipped if u want it i can probably get the wire from the radio all the way back if u need it
has the bracket and all just let me know

fully built, gt70 turbo, and F.A.S.T standalone what more do i need to say

Apparently many Eclipses have an FM antenna in the rear hatch glass that looks like it's part of the rear defrosted grid. My RS had both a fixed antenna like yours and one in the hatch glass. The one in the hatch glass even had the wiring run up behind the radio but has a different plug than the standard antenna. I have never cared for the in-glass antennas so I went on ebay and bought a very nice aftermarket replacement unit in black chrome that works great. I pulled out the stock antenna mast and installed the new one in about an hour or so. My RS had the wiring plugs for the factory units already in the back and all I had to do was splice the proper wires and it works like the factory unit.

Retracted

Notice how the antenna height, when raised, is safely above the height of the hatch so there is no chance of accidentally catching the top of the antenna when you close the hatch. That is why many antennas on eBay say they aren't recommended for the hatchback. Search and you will find the taller antennas in black.

I tried to add a power antenna off a 97 to my 95 gs with no luck. There is no wire behind my trunk paneling for splicing so be cautious,.

i added an aftermarket power antenna to my RS. there was no stock wiring but it's not that difficult to run wires. the antenna signal wire is already back there, you just need to run a power wire to turn 'on' the antenna with the rest of the car's accessories.
