77751, Custom seat re-upholstering
Posted by hazardeclipse, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Would anyone be interested in this? My sister did mine and it looks great. I'll take some pics either tonight or tomorrow so you can see it, but if you guys are interested, make a list with your userID, what material you want (cloth, leather, or vinyl) what color you want(not quite sure what we can do yet, so post, and we'll if it can be done) This is just for general info... as of right now we're only doing eclipse/talon seats. We figured about $180-$200 for the two front seats in black vinyl. The rears can be done, but we're still working on logistics for that... Thanks guys

OK, here's the link to the pics... Please note this was the prototype... you'll notice the driver's seat fits a little better than the pass. seat, and the rear seat looks better than the both of them combined... that's the kind of learning curve we're looking at here. Erika (my sister) is REALLY good at this stuff, so the quality will definatly be there... Here's the link...

To late to edit my post so let me fix it here:

1. WarnerC - black vinyl - if those pictures look good
2. FlyinESi - Black/Silver Leather - Outside of seat black, center in silver - Back seats the same.
3. Scirio - Black/Perforated Black (if available) vinyl - Outside of seat black, center in perforated - Back seats the same.

EDIT: like this but black if you can find it, otherwise just plain black

Ok, at the risk of sounding dumb, are these seat covers? To my knowledge when a seat is re-upholstered the new material is sewn around the seat. Does this mean I need to send you my seats? If they are just covers, how do you get the headrest to sit that nice? Thanks for the info, sorry if this is dumb. I am interested in black leather, front and back but need to know the final price.

I might be intrested in blk leather also depending on the final price.

nope, i didn't bail... um... my sister wrote this thing out and wanted me to type it out.. it's kinda long... but here goes...

"To all whom are interested in seat covers:

Thank you all for the interest in my seat covers; they were an experiment that turned out very well, even to my perfectionist standards. I would be more than happy to make seat covers for all of you, but first I felt that I should let you all know about the limitations I'm up against. First, and most pressing, is time. I am very busy. I am currently enrolled in two universities, one of which is almost two hours away. I also have 2 jobs. My first priority will always be school. Secondly, I am not a professional upholsterer. I can make basic seat covers, i don't have a fancy embroidery machine and i can't make piping. Finally, i still have some details to work out before mass producing these things. Aaron's back seat has quite a few hours of hand sewing in it. As of right now I don't know how to get them to all of you without you hand sewing them yourself or having you send the bottom of the back seat to me, so I can sew it. The fabric used in Aaron's seats is not fire-resistant; and that is something that each of you will have to decide whether it is relavant to you. (It wasn't to me, until I saw someone's car burn down in the school parking lot last week...:thumbsdown) Also to make sure the seat covers have the best possible fit, i will need the current covers off of your back seat and the passenger seat, including the plastic clips that hold the bottom on, so they can go on the new seat cover. (Unless someone knows what they are called so we can go buy them.) I felt it only fair to let you all know my limitations and if there is anyone still interested in seat covers I would be willing to talk to you individually about fabric choices, prices, and any other concerns, or ideas you may have...(I'm going to set her up her own 2GNT login, so you can PM her...) Again, thank you for the interest.
-Erika..."

im still interested. as far as finding out what parts to use for the back seat so that we dont have to ship ours out, get a copy of the chiltons manual.......im sure it shows what parts are needed in there.

To install these, you take your old upholstery off... The ones we make fit kinda like stock... the bottoms attach to the seat pan with plastic clips, the backs of the front seats will be zippered on the bottom, so you'd never see it. The backrest on the back seat will also be zippered, but the bottom part of the back has to be hand sewn... that is what qualifies as the 'logistics' we are currently working out...

If they are just covers, how do you get the headrest to sit that nice?

As it stands, you may have to send us in your head rests, unless we use the stock plastic clips that are in place on your headrests, now...

Thanks for the info, sorry if this is dumb. I am interested in black leather, front and back but need to know the final price.

We're still in the process of pricing, right now... PM me for more info... BTW, these aren't dumb questions, If anybody else has ANY other questions, don't be afraid to ask... :thumbsup

It's not the back seat that's the issue (well it is, kinda) but the parts we're talking about go to the bottom parts of the front seats. theres this long, plastic clip that is sewn to the upholstery that fastens to the seat pan. I don't think that's in the Chilton's manual, I'll look, tho. As for the bottom part of the back seat, we'll figure something out, then let you guys know... Thanks.

Update: I found the aforementioned 'plastic-clips' on the internet, so there will be no need to send in any parts of your front seats... As for the back seats, How do you guys feel about removing the metal rings from the foam to remove the old cover, then re-attaching them with new metal rings? that's better than sewing it right? I need opinions, guys... Lemme know...
77937, RE: Custom seat re-upholstering
Posted by WarnerC, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
im having a hard time visualizing that but it definitley sounds easier than sewing. I dont even know how to sew.. do you have a pic of what the rings look like?
77950, RE: Custom seat re-upholstering
Posted by hazardeclipse, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
Just lift up the bottom part of the back seat... they look like this... you need special pliers to put them on, but they're only like $20...
