I want to take my RS to power. I know all the basics like, can this be done, has this been done yadda yadda. Its all been posted before I know. I'm just wondering for those who have doen it here, whats the best way to go? Should I buy an SPAL kit and then wire up the factory switches somehow? Or should I track down and buy the entire stock set up and use that? Which one is more reliable and which one is cheaper? What would I expect to pay for an entire factory setup? I know the SPAL goes for about $150 but I'm not sure if I need to buy the switch kit and modify that or not.

spal is cheaper and easier to install IMO. most people going for the stock look buy a SPAL kit and stock power door skins and wire those up instead of buyin a switch kit. either way you're buying the SPAL kit. it's just up to you if you want stock switches or aftermarket (in which case you can mount them anywhere you like).

im so glad my rs came with power locks and windows... i couldnt even imagine the hell I would have to go through just to smoke a cigarette.

after converting from power nothing to power everything (locks, windows, trunk, antenna) i can't imagine not having them. probably one've the most useful mods i've done to my car. :P

I might get power windows at the very least, just so I can roll down both driver & passenger windows without having to lean over and all that.
Local stereo install shops will usually do the power accessory thing for you. They will use an aftermarket kit to get you some power windows and they charge around $80cdn labor per door + parts.

I found a kit on ebay for $75 new. I might buy that one but does anyoen have a schematic for wiring up the factory switches? That will solve the power windows, still need to do the locks.

well, if your looking for ease of install, you might as well go spal. because...if you get all the power stuff from a GS+, youll need the door skins, the relays, the switches, the motors, window regulator, etc. and its gonna be a major PITA trying to track down ALL that stuff intact in one place...then you have to remove the old hand crank system. spal kit, can be done in one afternoon. no swaping parts, everything you need (except spal switches if you decide to go that route) is included and is there when needed. no peieceing parts together and hoping for that last part so you can do your install.

and it just so happens, that i have a brand new in the box SPAL kit collecting dust. i got it for my little bro who also had an RS, and he sold his car, got one with power options. he never even touched the kit. hoping he would one day install it, all the eclipse specific parts were put into small baggies by me. there are no switches with the kit, so you could use the stockers. let me know if you want it. brand new they are 110+ ship. ill let this go for $80 shipped. i just want it gone and 80 sure beats 125 or so.
