Im lookin to do that to make a nice straight back dual exhaust. I cant think of any cons, just pros. Any opinions?

I don't know of anyone who has done what you are talking about but I was there when Powereclipes got his dual exhaust put on his old GS. They just bent it around the well as much as they could, and banged it in a little to make some more room. I don' t know if he ever did post pics of it or not but you could search.

if you wanted it to smooth out a dual exhaust setup, you could always carefully bend the material up and form a channel...like the one going up the center of the car that the exhaust pipe runs along. or i guess you could cut out the peice and weld some peices to make it all tight again.

i remember reading that a dual exhaust robs power from us...that was a long time ago though :shrug

I dont think he is concerned with the power, just the looks on this project.

then why bother cutting the spare tire well up?? Jus get it bent around, or "Y" it off somewhere. :shrug

Whoa, back that train up. Im about to install a SC61 turbo. Ive already forged everything inside. I have .14 cams. I was just thinking, one more hole, easier to get the exhaust out. I actually heard its not good to run 3". No, dont think Im all about the look. I way with function WAAAAY before form. Thats all I do is mess with that motor. Matter of a fact, Im getting the Mega Squirt next week and Mr Slick himself is gonna help me program it.

So can I cut it out without hurting the structure and is it bad to run dual on our cars??

Say Whuh???

You better learn to tune your safc before you dive into a megasquirt.

And since our cars are unibody who really knows if cutting into that unibody will affect its overall strength or handling?!?!?

:shrug

Nah man, Im getting rid of the AFC and the SFMU. Dont worry its all under control. And I guess your right about the handling part. I bet there would be a prob with roll. Unless maybe I got the strut bars front, back and bottom. What do you think?

3" exhaust on a turbo car will NOT hurt it...also, i wouldn't cut into a unibody, ever. Jus go with a normal exhaust IMO...if you wanna fill up the other side of the bomex rear then throw a muff on there.

Yeah I was doin alot of thinking today while I was driving truck. I not goig to cut it out because of the advice you guys gave, it makes total sense.

I do have one more idea with cutting it out. Of course if I cut it out I would tack a sheet of steel in there, but what if I cross braced it underneath? Im not thinking about dual exhaust, it really doesnt make sense, there is only one ex manifold. But thinking about "just a little" weight reduction. What do you think?

There is a kid driving around with duals. He had to use like 1 3/4" or some shit for the other side without having to cut/bend anything.

How much you wanting for the SAFC? :)

this will be stronger than stock. of course...with a turbo i would just run a side pipe or open turbo...but thats just me ;)

Could you elaborate? I think I know what you mean by side pipe and open turbo, but can you explain for me so I know where on the same channel?

As for the SAFC. I dont know yet. I found an 88 turbo Supra, the guy only wants 500 bucks for it. So I might still use it. I wrote down your handle just in case I do get rid of it. If I do sell it, it will be for what I bought it for, and that was 175.00 plus shipping.

side exhaust = exhaust coming out the side of your car...the legal way to do it is to have the exhaust come out behind the last seat...if you take out the back seat, you could have it exit the side of the car behind the drivers/passenger seat, legally.

open turbo = no exhaust...best way to run a turbo is straight into the atmosphere. No worrying about back pressure and all that garbage.

Man reading that last post really got me thinking about the side pipes.

here's an idea i've been trying to do, this may actually work: here's a drawing:

http://forums.kaptainmyke.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=9124

it's possible and it will barely touch the tire, and you might have to rivit an alluminum heat shield in back of the sideskirt, but it will work. no more piping over the axle, a lot smoother flow.

thats a bold statement coming from someone who has a park-bench wing on there hatch lol

and i agree with other ppl on the board in that a dual exhaust setup coming from a car with one exhaust maifold, would give you no advantages. rememeber turbos like free exhaust flow.....not a bunch of Y-pipes and turns.

good luck

I was the one that made comment. As for the wing, damn man, that freakin hurts!! Im actually taking it off when I get it back. Till I get some new pics, can we please just PRETEND its not there, I can.

Eclipse turbo spoiler IMO, as for the split exhaust(it cant be dual, unless you want your car sounding like a weedeater..unless you WANT a 1 pipe from 2 cylinders, making 2 pipes from 4 cylinders :P If I could find a good full pic of the underside of an eclipse, I could show you how I'm doing my split exhaust, VIA photochop or a small diagram from paint :P it's not really that hard, just depends on what you wanna do with it, but if you find me said underside pic, I'll hook ya up :p :)

Actually the mirrors are the APC carbon fiber"look". I got for Xmas last year from my wife, so you guys know how that is.

As for the spare tire well, if anyone is still interested. I spoke with Frank @ www.Frankscustomfiberglass.com and he said that aslong as I replace it with something welded in, it will be fine. So if you decide you want cuz of weight or for a specfic exhaust installtion, your fine. I really trust this guy. There the ones that made Chris Rado's CF Celica drag body. There also the guys that are helping me do my turbo.

Take it easy
