76183, Shaved door handle people: I need pics! Posted by Dirty, Aug-23-04 01:50 PM
I'm fucking tired of the broken door handle shit and just broke my other one yesterday. I ordered an Autoloc kit with alarm. I haven't hooked up anything like this before and will need some help. I would like to get as many pics as possible of the solinoids mounted and poppers and whatever I can get. Any information on the install would also be helpful. Points for pics ( if you care about that kinda shit).

I can hook you up with some pics as soon as I borrow a camera. Oh one very important thing, put big ass wire on the solinoids, like at least 12G.

Why would you want to do that? You spent all that money on a turbo kit and now you won't even be able to use it at the track.

My local track doesn't give a shit about it.

I'm not shavibg the handles. I'm just not gonna fix them. The handles are apoxy'd on. I 'm just installing the kit so I don't have to break them again.
I got my kit today, and I'm gonna try to install it now. Pics would be badass at this point.

Solenoid placement is the biggest pain in my ass right now. Kinda fooked up when I can't even make it past the first step.;(

If the shaved handles and solenoids installation become too much of a bother you might consider my solution to fix the old parts.
Scroll down my home page and look for the link.
www.rcaz.com
I have put together a kit to repair old 2G handles and/or re-inforce new ones so they never break again.
I came up with these because I was pissed that it would cost over $100 per handle to buy a new ones and have them painted. I assumed others would be interested as well so I had a big batch made up and am getting ready to offer them to everyone.
It will cost under $20 to fix the handles you have and you can do it usually in a day or so including the time required for the JB Weld to cure.
You'll need a hacksaw blade and some JB Weld to do the repair.

so you're leaving on the broken handles but installing door poppers? you do realize that in order to use your poppers, you'll hafta leave your doors unlocked or they won't open and you'll have locked yourself out unless you use your handle i guess. when i shaved mine, i disconnected the door locks all together so i wouldn't lock myself out (but i didn't use a kit, not sure whats included with those). why not just shave them off if you're gonna bother with 80% of the work already? just curious. ;)

The locks will be removed. It's not like anyone can get in using the handle now. I'm not shaving the handles because the following:
I don't care about looks. I don't wanna spend the money for paint and body work. I might be able to get away with it like this at the track. and if people don't know I have door poppers, they might not look for my secret button. I think I've already paid to much for this kit, but since I got it I wanna use it.

Well my alarm locks/unlocks my doors when I arm/disarm. So its not a problem if you have an alarm. It has 2 aux outputs for the doors :). I'm gonna go tack some pics in a little bit, just gotta pull the panel off.
Edit: Here are some pics for you, let me know if you need any more, and of what. Btw we did the passenger side them same way.
We relocated the dome light button and put the popper there, drilled a hole and moved the dome light down, works like a charm.
Here is the hole we cut to gain access to the 50lbs. actuator. You kind of need it to finish the install but not to mount it.
 another pic.

Hell yeah man! This helps alot. I didn't wanna have to do this, but whatever it takes. Time to break out the plasma cutter.
Do you have power windows? What kit is that? I got the Autoloc SVPRO5A with the alarm. The solenoids are big. Thanx for the pics dude!

I just bought a random door popper kit off of ebay with the 50lbs. acuators. Yeah I got power windows, it won't interfer at all. I don't know if I'd use a plasma cutter to cut that, maybe something a little less extreme lol. Keep in mind you only really need that hole for access, hooking up the cable and what not. Its pretty easy to do. Since I was shaving the handles cuz they were broke and all, I attached the cable to the part that outside handle pulls to open the door. Keep in mind if you hook to the inside handle, the handle is gonna be pulled everytime you open it.

Man this is the worst fucking thing I've ever tried to do. Maybe I'm going through a moron phase and my brain has turned to shit, but I just can't get it. I don't see how this shit hooks up. If I hook up the cable to the solenoid, then I can't use my door handle to get out. I can't even get to the latch for one, and I don't have a clue where I can hook the wire up to open the latch.
Even if I get that shit done, I've got 6,000,000,000,000 wire to hook up after that. Autoloc's directions suck!
Is there anyone in the ATL that has shaved door handles that would mind me looking inside their door? I could have built 3 engines by now and I can't even get a fooking cable hooked up. I'm about to just put some black handles on! Fuck it!!!
